Lightsabers are overrated and seeing that in the recent years i turned to despise star wars and the cult of worship it created, i realized there isnt a thing special about lightsabers - they are just glowy katanas

i dont realy like starwars but lightsabers are awesome imo XD

Now to be personally honest, Sci-fi movie weapons that are iconic are pretty few and far between. Games, however, well, thats a pretty damn big market.

It's hardly iconic, but I like the semi-tribal sword that opens up into a beam gun from Farscape. That's a TV show though, not a movie.

Aliens comes to mind. They just had guns! Futuristic guns with built in flame throwers and such, but they had bullets and everythang.

If you want "Iconic" as in everyone that sees them or hears the sound effect will recognize it, you're going to get a lot of responses saying Lightsaber, E11 stormtrooper rifle, Star trek phaser and Aliens M-41a.

they're some of the only ones that have really permeated popular culture.

The Judge weapons in Judge Dredd, I thought, were pretty sweet.

Buck Rodger's Rocket Pistol.

It's actually a starship weapon but the flak shield from Battlestar Galactica that the Galactica uses once in the series. Probably the most realistic, in my opinion, anti-ordnance defense against conventional missile based weapons. Plus it looked badass as fuck.

Judge Dredd's Lawgiver II model handgun.

I don't know if you'd call it iconic, but I loved the staff laser weapons from Stargate. Of course, anything Star Trek is good.

Not really movie but TV wise you have the tesla guns from Warehouse 13 which are pretty cool... there is also a ton of cool weapons in the stargate series's

Sonic screwdriver from the doctor who series could be used as a weapon, hell, the daleks are huge weapons themselves

Actually, if you want the purely offensive weapon version of the sonic screwdriver, you'd want to go with the Master's laser screwdriver from Dr. Who. The sonic screwdriver really only is mostly a multi-tool, and very rarely was used in any of the series as a defensive weapon.

I'm surprised so few people mentioned the Predator weapons. The first thing that popped to mind was the silhouette of one with his shoulder mounted cannon and wrist claws. Though my favorite weapons were the spear, the wire net, and the 'disc' weapon on the second movie. The most recent addition to the series of movies, Predators, featured a very cool scout bird that sat in a similar location to the cannons on the small, recon Predicted of the dark 'skinned' (though it's more like an exoskeleton) tribe.

I'll always be a fan of Star Wars, but in the series, weapons were NOT a strong point, IMO. They were much better at world building and race design. The clothing also blew.

Laser Screwdriver from Dr. Who, phaser pistols and phaser rifles from star trek, the laser bow from the blade movie and the bow caster from star wars.

I'd say those hookshot thingies that look like a gun, where a rope with a took shoots out so u can climb up buildings
