Oyy I know how those jobs can be. I left one of my old jobs as a vet tech in tears. Luckily they are not all like that.. the second place was so much better. I'm glad you will actually have some time off and we will be seeing some more art from you soon!

At this point I don't plan on ever returning to that field of work. It's just not worth being that overworked, underpayed, and underappreciated. :/

But yeah man, look forward to getting in touch with everyone again! :D

yep, the techs and assistants do all the work in places like that =/ I guess I'm a bit of a masochist since I decided to get my DVM degree, but eventually I plan on opening my own practice. At least having been a tech once, I won't forget the importance of a good work environment.

Yeah. Me and my office manager had a long talk when I put in my two week notice. We talked about how it's a job that really, you have no way of being prepared for. Of course techs do have a better idea going into the field with their training, but it is a HARD job. I wish you the best of luck with your DVM, though! It takes someone with a lot of passion to stay in these jobs, I think. :P Unfortunately I'm one of those people who have the mindset of, "Oh you want to try to rip me to shreds while I help you? Enjoy your leaking infected abscess!" x)

aye, it does take a certain personality type to stick with the field and just because someone likes animals, it does not mean they would enjoy being a tech or assistant. I started as an assistant, and was moved up to a tech later when working for an ER only clinic. Certainly have seen my share of mean pets... especially little dogs. DEAR LORD those things are evil. I learned never trust a pug the hard way... with 6 stitches to the face at 5 am. Oyy. sedation is such a beautiful thing!

It's good you found what was not your place.. everyone has one it's just trial and error to find out what will not work. I'm glad you didn't hang onto a job and be miserable. Far too many people do that. There is plenty of other work out there, and a place where you can be happy and have a positive influence on society.

Oh my god. Yeah, we have more issues with things like JRTs and GSDs and chows. Seems a lot of the "cool" dogs to have are stupid-ass breeds that most people have no business owning lol. Thankfully I have never had an injury on the job more than just a surface scratch...also, we have more issues with cats than dogs, and I think felines are MUCH more difficult to restrain.

And yeah, you are completely right! I am grateful to have had the experience, 100%, but it's just not for me. Need something not so stressful, but I'm proud of myself for not giving up and just leaving on the days when I really, really wanted to.

Yep, cocker spaniels, JRTs, and Chihuahuas... or anything small and fluffy are bound to be demon dogs. And you are so right about cats being the most difficult to restrain. Give me the meanest large breed dog over a cat any day and I will be happy. Cat muzzles don't work and the gloves are impossible to manipulate well enough. Cats are just mean. It's funny how I draw mostly felines, but I have little love for them when it comes to treatment time.

I will graduate may 2013, so just about a year more of clinics... but this is the fun part in comparison to the past 3 years of mainly book-stuff and horrible horrible exams. I'm looking forward to seeing my first canine and feline patients tomorrow, since my first block was equine. I love horses and hope to someday own one... but I don't want to be the doctor for something that has 4 colons. >.>

Cats are insane. After that job I kind of swore I'd never get a cat again...though that was gone the moment I saw the Siamese kitten on craigslist that is now sleeping at the end of the bed :P But yeah man, we have some doozies. The cats that we have to use chemical restraint on just to examine...whew.

That's awesome though. What school are you in, if you don't mind me asking? And yeah, large animal medicine is intimidating to me haha.

I don;t mind at all =D I'm at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. I would've went closer to my home in the northeast, but my state dosen't have a vet school and there was no chance I'd ever get into Tufts or Cornell, hehe. I never thought i'd end up in Louisiana for four years, but here I am.... It's interesting how some things change with location. We do a TON of heartworm treatments/prevention in this state, and it's so rare up north that it's not much of a concern. Lyme disease is just the opposite. In fact we didn't learn much about it at all here in LA. I try to know as much as I can about various disease not seen in my part of the country, since I have no idea where I'll end up XD

Oh , wow! How do you like LA? I had actually been thinking about trying to move down there eventually, but some online digging made it seem like a lot of the residents are unhappy in that state :/ Cornell is actually about an hour from where I live, the vet I work for graduated there.

Yeah, last week alone we saw 5 /new/ cases of Lyme, but heartworm is almost nonexistant...heartworm scares me :C
