I'm interested in setting up a little event during this summer that involves furs going to a shooting range and having good southern BBQ. I'm wanting to see how many people would be interested in going. If anyone from out of state wants to join then they can stay over for the whole weekend if they want (have a few beds and sofas and plenty of floor space) (there are also some very close hotels if you don't like a crowd).

Time for a few more details/ideas:

1) Event is for firearm enthusiasts, owners, and those just interested in firearms (or even just don't mind watching and are here for the friends and those that are (as long as not the "eww guns" type lol)).

2) You do not have to own a firearm to join. But if you want to shoot something, be willing to buy a box of ammo for the types of guns you want to shoot (most of the cheap box ammo is an average of $14-$20 per box). And there should be plenty to fire; I myself have 9 to chose from and I'm sure there will be others.

3) Planning on having a BBQ dinner for everyone. We can either hit up a good BBQ restaurant, or we can have everyone pitch some money or supplies in and can fix up some grilling and BBQ here. (things like cash towards meats and sides, or you can bring chips, plates, canned corn/creamed corn, baked beans, buns, drinks, and stuff like that. (closer to the event Ill post a "things to bring" list so everyone is on the same page and nothing too weird comes that only one person will want)

4) Have several other things to do to help with boredom (NES, Sega Genesis, N64, GameCube, PS1, 2, & 3, XBox360, and a Wii with games), we can also watch movies or even go in a group to watch a currently playing movie. Maybe some music and being silly. If drinking, be over 21, and if you would, donate a bottle to leave, or cash to help restock the bar.

5) Event will be in Birmingham, Alabama in one of 2 ranges (one indoor, one outdoor depending on majority input). And before you think dirt roads and redneck ghetto.... that's Mississippi XD. Seriously its a metropolitan city with some sky scrapers and all, and it's not that anti-gay (just anti-throw it in your face types) and heck the majority of the city is democrat (as per the mayor and city counsel for the last 25 years). Anyways, just adding this in here so you don't discount this event thinking it's some backwoods trekking.

SAFETY AND PUBLIC GRACE:

1) Anyone joining the event with their handgun or rifle, must submit to a quick inspection of the firearm for safety and upkeep. If you yourself are an avid and safe firearms user, you might also be asked to inspect firearms of other individuals (might just do a swap and check routine if most know what they are looking at).

2) Individuals will be attending to help with safety and firearms basics for individuals that are new or simi-new to the range of firearms. (glasses and ear plugs/ear cuffs required (but can be found cheaply)

3) Fire arms are a serious deal, as is the impression we leave the public with about furs. So please act mature in public and please don't count being weird to the public as "I'm just being me" (so please leave ears and tails at the house or hotel. P.S. you can wear character badges if you want to help everyone in the group know who you are; that's okay).

4) Please avoid PDAs at gun range. I know a lot of people are proud of who/what they are and I respect that. But PDAs aren't even appropriate for straight and non-furs. Making out with people in public and walking hand in hand just is disturbing in public. So do what ya want in restaurants, homes, hotels and whatever, just please no PDAs in a public event area... especially a gun range.... (hope comm on sense kicks in)(but in reality, PDAs, for straights and gays, is really just a putting it in others' face kinda thing, it's not polite)

5) At the range; have fun, but be safe, don't get rowdy/too loud, and treat the property respectfully and clean up after yourself. NO DRAMA!


Anyway, that is the idea. I'm waiting to see response of those interested in this summer event, probably some time after Anthrocon. And the reason I went ahead and posted some rules is to go ahead and weed out those too immature to handle firearms and being normal in public.
