It can be a bit daunting, but it gets good mid-2nd doctor, and really picks up in the 3rd doctor's stuff.

Of course, the 4th is many, many people's favorite, even to this day.

Holy crap, turns out the Doctor Who DVDs I got from my uncle for Christmas is the series with the Valeyard.

Trial of a Timelord. Probably the best 6th Doctor meta-arc of his TV career. Most of the 6th Doctor's stuff is kind of iffy, because the person in charge of the BBC at the time was (as stated) trying to can the show. This made the 6th Doctor one of the least liked doctors in the show.

That said, now with the audio dramas, they let Colin Baker finally do his own thing and be THE DOCTOR. To the point that he's now one of the favorites. I highly recommend looking into the audio dramas. I think you can download a great deal of them on iTunes (I haven't checked so I could be wrong). Of course, there's also.... other sources... but I'm being legit here.
