Suggestions for general improvements
13 years ago
Hello! This evening I made the killer mistake of looking through the galleries of all my favourite artists. It was really fun and inspiring but now I kind of want to ask; what do you think I could do better? Just in general, really, not looking for "this picture was terrible because..." type stuff, more like "Work on this! Do more that!".
(I don't usually ask for specific critique because I'm horrendously sensitive and tend to read most criticism as "you might as well just kill yourself" - I'm trying to be better at manning up, but I'm not quite there yet :D)
Personally I think I need to work harder on shading. I like hatching a lot but I keep making horrible blurry messes of shading where it would probably look better with crisper edges and stuff. But I'm too scared of getting it wrong to do anything too stark!
So please please give me some pointers on what to improve on/get rid of so that I can improve and make more people happy~

your perspective is always spot on too, might i add :)
you knock yourself down, saying that your shading is bad, but i think that the way you crosshatch really works in your style :) perhaps if you were to mix it up a bit and use the crosshatching for only *far* darker shading and use darker shades of colours for lighter shading, it'd add more contrast to your work, but i think it looks great as is :)
perhaps you should look into starting work on backgrounds and things too?
I'm honestly having a hard time thinking of ways to help you improve xD
hope this helps a little ^^;
And if I have to choose then perhaps I would agree with Nybras and add that perennial trickiness that is clothing and how it folds and creases when worn.
