But when did Shemp come into the trio before or after Curly Joe.

Oooh. No no no. Shemp was one of the first three stooges. First it was just Moe and Shemp with a guy called Ted Healy. I think they had a show called Ted Healy and his Stooges. They got picked up and needed a third so they saw Larry doing a violin act and took him ((yes he really can play that)). Shemp left because of stress related problems if Im right and so Moe got his other brother (Curly) to join in. ((Shemp was also brother to Moe and Curly)) after Curly had his stroke Shemp came back for a while. After him came Joe Besser ((who I really cant stand)) and then Curly Joe. I might have missed a few details here and there, but that's the gist of it.
