I don't normally rant on here... but...

As much as I love Mario games.
Nintendo has clearly JUMPED THE SHARK FOR THE LAST TIME.
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/20/n.....g-this-august/
....I feel sick. Like.... REALLY REALLY sick.
BUT REALLY? WHY?
WHY MORE NSMB? The overall feeling, sounds, music, art style, presentation and game flow is..... BLAND.
Look, I know we love the raccoon tail n shit and I'd prefer the cape and stuff, but no, this is a sequel. This calls for new stuff. I don't want the disgusting feel of hitting a block and have it crumble over mario as if it was a stale dried up biscuit.
I don't want horrid, plastic tilesets and backgrounds, the colours look washed up and boring and well... CLAY LIKE.
The NSMB Games, are not BAD in that sense, they just don't feel right, they just taste odd and... non-chalant, like they lack any character.
I've always said SMB3 felt like chocolate, sweet and tasty
While SMW felt more like a clear glass of water, smoother, fast paced and more refreshing to play,
but the NSMB series just feels like you ate too much stale biscuits and your mouth aches for a glass of water, but it just fills up with more biscuits... and more.... until your throat dries up.
....yeesh, what the hell am I saying...
I know I know, SM3DLand was bland but the special 8 worlds made up for it, but at least the presentation was more... galaxy/64 estique, I am not letting a new NSMB style game slide. The games just don't feel..... RIGHT. THEY DON'T FEEL RIGHT DDDDDD8

FA+

But yeah, NSMB-the-same-styled-shit-again-with-old-shit-you-like is really boiling me up D:
I'm just ANGRY that they don't want to change up the art style and feel.
We've been suck in this disgusting cloggy tasteless NSMB style since 2006 and I wish for at least a new style or something.
Not... NSMB again.
It's like Mario Kart too. MK64 had this.. FAR OUT fisheye speedy feeling, with rock organs n shit in the OST
But... MKWii and 7 just seem to be riding off MKDS's wagon with that... "Wii+Mii" feel to it that just feels... OFF.
I think we have to point this to being "Angry Birds" [only example i can think of]. Mario is a nice game, one that people won't mind buying it again with few changes made. It will keep working, and it will work for a massive amount of people. I dont know if Mario, Angry or any other game is the top seller right now. It's just one of those games that can still almost brake the "non-gamer" barrier. While others like Sonic have fell/rise or Megaman which is reborn then slowly dies off.
Sooner or later, those KFC biscuits are gonna choke the gamers. Sadly I don't think the business will see it since it will continue to bring in that Millions of dollars profit for a long time.
But yeah.....they need fresh material for sure ^..^
But it seems redundant to do another NSMB title, they have pretty much pulled out all the stocks, Mario 3D Land was nice and the Tanuki Tails actually had some relation to the plot, but it seems like they're trying too hard to pander to the audience, and the general theme of NSMB feels slightly artificial with weird stuff like moving mushroom platforms that sways.....pretty sure the original Super Mario Bros only had weird dual lift things....
If they really want to pander to the Audience, they should really make a NSMB that is more reminiscent of Super Mario World, at least i assume the purpose of the subseries was to inspire nostalgia by going through certain bits of each game as it progressed, but i barely remember Yoshi in Wii....it might have been placed there because he was also in Galaxy 2, where Yoshi had a more interesting purpose. :0
Guess it is sort of easy to top 3D Mario games after every new game as long as they're console ones, but the handheld ones feels....sorta small, it's weird. (an example is Galaxy's Hub-based system that unlocks more as you get stars, vs Galaxy 2's need to get stars to open up levels semi-linearly, though both games are great in their own right)
and also hope they dont do a NSMB version of yoshi island/story
But it couldn't be worse than Other M was, could it?
It'll probably be an alright game, but it's still gonna feel STALE.
MARIO IS A DOWN AND OUT DRUG ADDICT, HE NEEDS DRAIN CLEANER TO LIVE, AND DOCTOR PRINCESS PEACH HAS THE ONLY ANTIDOTE.
..... <.<
I liked NSMB, and I've been around long enough to have had Atari 2600 when it was just released, not to mention the original SMB ^^;;
Variety dammit.
*goes back to Sonic Generations* DON'T JUDGE ME!
I wish they'd FUNK IT UP a bit, you know?
Not go with more NSMB blandness :[
Just Say it.
Not Plumbers in fursuits.
It's fun to dream.
To me, it feels like it's pretending to be Super Mario World, except OMG 3D OMG MODERNISH NEW STUFF
Really, the gameplay feels uninteresting, the design just seems to be "see this from Super Mario World? Make it 3D, and don't really make it seem unique at all".
The sound design... meh... It's Mario, so they just re-use a lot of sound effects or make new ones that sound like they existed already.
The music though. The music feels horrifically, HORRIFICALLY repetitive and even unenthusiastic, like they're trying WAY too hard to somehow merge the music from Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Bros., and instead it's like this really really generic salsa music. Hell, all I can hear in my head when I think about the music: NA-NA-NA-NA, NA NA NANA, NA-NA-NA-NA, NA NA NANA, NA-NA-NA-NA, NA NA NANA, NA-NA-NA-NA, NA NA NANA, NA-NA-NA-NA, NA NA NANA, NANANANANANAAA...
just... the music is what killed it for me, on the first level even. I waded through the game to like the 2nd castle, then was like "forget this" and went and did a white-wash purge of the infected brain cells by playing the original Super Mario Bros, beat that in a single sitting, no warps.
Sort of feel like Mario Bros. is more or less going "use this mold for instant success" when it comes to the design of the games, innovation and change in design being replaced with "do what probably resulted in 20 million unit sales".
LAZY!
Really, I'm getting tired of this plasticy, rounded-out, cheap candy look. It worked for Galaxy 1, I let Galaxy 2 slide, but it really ran out when 3DS Land came out. And it feels weird and lifeless. Hell, there's little to no texture.. no shadows.. It feels like a step back from Yoshi's Island and Paper Mario.
It's like stale Nick-kids toons. A Non-offensive, non-inspiring, relaxed-to-the-point-of-comatose look.
Which is really weird, because the Zelda series has gone through many changes (while keeping the same core mechanics). I'd kill for a Mario game that looked like Wind Waker and had it's cast of wacky characters. Is it so hard to make a Super Paper Mario in 3d at least?
gaaahhh I want to wrench these characters away from corporate before they go fully down the Sonic path. Just let them rest for a while. Put them in hibernation, focus on other franchises, and bring them out again, fresh and new. That's how nostalgia works.
But really, I have more fun playing the old games on emulators so I'm old and out of the loop. If the kids want this mush, let em. :p Hopefully they'll be a new 'revolution' somewhere down the line, like Pokemon being forced to actually animate their 2d sprites even if it is cheesy puppetry. Baby steps! Baby steps!
We need more mario styles.
What I really loved in 3Dland was the 2D art in the letters between worlds, Reminded me alot of the art in the old Super nintendo Manuals.
I would REALLY LOVE a Mario game with handdrawn sprites like WarioLandShake.
Would definately give the animations more "life" than the plasticy cookiecrumbling 2D
Mario games are getting rather stale and It really needs that breath of fresh air World did for the series in gameplay and flow TOO D: They're trying to hard to appeal to the people who can't let go of SMB3.
I don't wanna say this, but if the music is also shoddy and dull, the new 2D marios are dead to me.
Something more painterly is good. I'd like to see Mario done in that Strikers style, or more like a street graffiti look. Have the music played by real bands or nice synths, none of this shitty 'wah-wah fuck-fucks' music! I'm sure they have the money for it!
Christ, this is first-party property and it feels like cheap shovelware. I'm not even asking for revolutionary gameplay, just a different look. lol
I thought the wii version was pretty good, but then again I've sorta fallen out of love with video games.
