"Beginning" - AKA, First night out
Well...
First off, I apologise if I do go on about this a bit, I'm still getting used to the changes in lifestyle associated with coming out. Second, thanks to Ukent for the journal name.
I finally summed up the drive to go out to a gay-friendly (although specifically, it's a place that happily serves gay, straight and lesbian) bar that was holding an 80s night on Saturday. It was a bit awkward on my own to begin with, but I soon bumped into a female friend who I hadn't seen in ages... where we were both equally surprised to learn of the other's orientation. Knowing that I now have someone I can talk to about this sort of stuff who happens to live locally is a significant relief.
Although she had to pop out for a while, I passed the better part of that intermission playing pool with some straight female patrons, and eventually with my friend once she'd returned. As the night wound on I danced, sang and drank with her, her partner, a gay male friend of theirs and another bloke I recognised from my local routine who I was also surprised to see there.
All in all, aside from skinning part of my finger, I had a fantastic night... as well as two separate offers to kip on people's sofas, and an offer from a guy to play pool which I regretfully had to decline.
Suffice to say, I will be back there this coming Saturday (Saturdays are traditionally the places' gay night, although I don't plan on restricting myself just to those).
