BUT Soul Hackers has a history of being dicked over by things like Sony not allowing a PSP port and the original data backup having gone missing, when it could've easily been our introduction to cool cyberpunk Megaten lust, way before P2/Nocturne.
Wait, seriously, I can sort of see Sony not allowing a PSP Port but the original data back-up being missing sounds like really rotten luck. And I agree that Soul Hackers could've introduce the cool cyberpunk elements much earlier.
Slight off-topic but I've been playing classic SMT 1 recently, and I was wondering if it's gonna ruin the experience if I look at FAQs to see which demons should I fuse, or should I look at it to stave off the headache?
Also, sorz, I misspoke, it wasn't Soul Hackers, but the first Devil Summoner where the source files were lost. AFAIK, Atlus USA had to choose between SH and P2:EP to localize, and the latter won out because people already knew about Revelations: Persona beforehand. I don't disagree with this decision at all, honestly think ATLUS/Megaten wouldn't have been as successful Stateside otherwise.
I had many good reasons against recommending SMT1 as a starter (or even mid-sequence) Megaten, and amongst them is this. (At least with the original SNES version.) It's okay, you'll probably need the help from FAQs, if only to avoid accidental Unwinnable Scenarios. (FSKING ID CARDS)
Huh, is that so? That's a pretty interesting story and makes me think what would have happened if Devil Summoner was the one that got localized instead. I can only imagine this meta scenario as SMT: If.
Ahh, so what would you consider to be the best introduction for the Megaten series? SMT1 is just balls-out hard if you're not min-maxing or abusing guns. I'm about near the point where you lose Law!Hero so yeah, I think I'll start using a guide lest I tear my hair off with all the grinding.
1. Devil Survivor 1(Overclocked?) / Persona 4 / Devil Survivor 2(?)
2. Persona 3(Fes?) / Persona 2 IS+EP / Nocturne / DDS1+2 / Raidou 2+1 / Soul Hackers
3. Strange Journey / Persona 1
4. SMT I+II / If... / Devil Summoner
Based on authenticity to Megaten themes, introduction of concepts, story and fun level?
How's DeSu2 so far? I thought it was pretty good.
Fuck if I know. I mean.. I start'd playing it. Then Kid icarus. :P And I haven't been feeling tactical rpgs right now. Tales was eating up rpg flair so...
I gotta get back into it. I like that style and story though. It's a bit different from the first one though. :3 Same world different cataclysmic event!
Just gotta say though, once you're in the last act, you can see that underneath the veneer of Evangelion With Social Links, is a pulsing love letter to old-school beat-up-God Megaten. (DeSu1/OClocked is more obvious about it, of course, but...)
