No, I think 'Neer (er, I mean, Fender) is referring to the charity auction at FA:U last year. I'll be coming back to auctioneer again this year, but today's event is strictly an album release event. Besides, any money from Chartbombing won't even show up until iTunes and Amazon actually report the sales to CD Baby, usually a full month or more after the fact. And they don't give me a lot of specifics about those sales. :P

Sometimes I actually wish I did have a record label so I could be more in control of this stuff.

People often ask me if my own music is on itunes/amazon but I'm never quite sure what the positives are over stuff like bandcamp, as the latter seems to offer fans more choice and artists more money and control. I'm guessing it's an exposure thing?

Yeah, Bandcamp doesn't have charts that the media refers to. Hell, for that matter, buying tracks directly from matthewebel.com/store gives you three high-quality digital options (one of which is Lossless), but that won't make any kind of promotional dent. The point of the iTunes/Amazon charts is to try and reach people who browse the charts when looking for new music, and maybe get some attention in the process. :)

once you get popular enough you can start self-publishing outside of i-tunes and the like. there's many many ways to do this that will let you be fully in control and reap almost all the profits. i can try to get you some info on that if you'd like, just send me a note here and i'll ask the 'expert' i know on self-publication. i already have a friend who self-publishes novels and a friend who just has a large knowledge of diffferent ways to self-publish media. sadly labels don't let you be as in-control as self publishing but there are some good labels out there that won't try to influence your stuff for the most part ^^;

Yeah the fandom seems to be run by drunk morons. Sadly it's run by accident. Fender, neer, kage is a good guy, 2, yappy, all accidental leaders by a popufurity contest. It's why when I see people like them like syber, caninehybrid, Evauk, (all of which are really good friends of mine since I don't freak out over them :P) I treat them Oh hey what's up? I don't want to be a fandom leader. I run FA, and that's about where things begin and end. How I got involved with FA was a complete accident for the most part. FA died, and I fought tooth and nail to help recover the site with Alkora, and helped bring everything back. It's not been the most pleasant of journeys.

I don't see myself as a leader, just a site admin. We're here to have fun, not try to influence the community. If I can pay back a user who helped us raise over $3,500 for charity, then so be it. I think that's a good cause.
