It just keeps on getting better... NOT!

First, I should mention I live with my boyfriend and his grandmother who is the epiphany of the term "technologically illiterate" despite boasting a bachelor's degree in computer graphics. A couple weeks ago her computer crashed. She decides to go to her laptop and discovers that it would not connect to the internet and instead of waiting for me or my boyfriend to be able to help her, she freaks out and calls customer support. This wasn't the good customer support either, this was the indian guy who can barely speak english reading from a piece of paper kind of customer support.
The kind but clueless man on the phone proceeded to feed her a great of bull about how all the computers on the network were infected because since our computer had a different antivirus than her did, they were somehow fighting each other across the network and canceled each other out. Despite our protests, she proceeded to allow this idiot to charge her $1500 to "fix" the problem and then allowed him remote access to our computer. It was after he had finished with her desktop computer and had royally screwed up our laptop that she realized the reason her own laptop would not connect to the internet...
It was never put on the network.
However she still took everything this man said to heart and anything we say to the contrary is wrong in her eyes. My boyfriend and I have been working to try and reverse the damage but between this , the fan that has now gone kaput, and the laptops age, we have come to the conclusion that it is time to lay our dear computer to rest. We are currently looking for a harddrive for a tower that we were given by friend and hope to make that the replacement computer.
Until then, I will have to bid everyone a temporary adieu. I'll be back I swear. Please don't forget me and all that soggy sappy good bye jazz.
