This morning, after chanting, I went to put our canary's cage into the living room so she, Big Poof, could be in the sun. Everyday I check if she's breathing (she's been ill for most of the time we've had her and the doctor only "cured her" for a short time until things came back). At this time, she's usually nesting in her cup of food she uses as a nest sometimes. She was nesting there, but not breathing. I went to my mum and told her and we agreed that it was best for her to have passed in her cup and not to have found her on the bottom of the cage. I broke down in tears, as did my mum, and we went our separate ways. I sat there crying, just thinking of the smallest things I did with and for Poof. I've lost pets before, but I was probably closest to her. Yeah, she's a bird and not a dog or cat, but there was a connection, a bonding; it didn't matter that she didn't sleep at the end of my bed or greet me at the door when I came home. And for the time she was here, I hope was well enough to have a greater and longer next life. Also, the second I started to suggest to Krishna that Poof fly around for a while before settling into her next life, I felt the heavy sorrow of loss just lift off of me. It's still sad that she is gone and she will be greatly missed, but I know she's in better hands now.
