Protip #1: Free Art

When requesting free artwork (when free art is being given away, of course) always thank the artist when you make the request. Don't just dump your ref sheet on their page. And always thank them when you receive the finished piece. Don't just post the piece in your gallery without responding to the comment/message the artist left when they gave it to you. Both the former and the latter are extremely rude.
A free art giveaway isn't a promotional event at a baseball game. Art is not a bumper sticker or a stress ball or a key chain that you pick up off a table. It's a customized thing that was made just for you by someone who bothered to take time out of their life to make something specifically for you and just for you. And that person was nice enough to not expect anything other than a "Thank you" in return.
Seriously, you guys. A friend and I are loosely planning on holding an art appreciation panel at Anthrocon 2013. We think a lot of the fandom needs it.

If I had the money and the time for Anthrocon!
Whenever I request the free art and receive it, I always say "thank you". Because they could have used more of their own time to do different things instead of doing free art for others! X3 But some just forget about that, huh?
I've seen many free art journals in which people just dump and go. And when its done its pretty much the same, but done in a take and go fashion.
Even if you pay for art...ALWAYS thank the artist. Sure a payment is a thank you, but really saying Thanks period goes a long way.
So I definitely support the idea for AC2013.
Fortunately, I've never had any problems like that... People around here are pretty nice and I've always received at least a 'thank you' when I've done a request.
And i support the idea you and your friend have there. :)
