Oh, awesome. What a perfectly rad way to spend a Saturday morning.
I betcha most kids here come from a generation where the Turtles are Gods, so there's gunna be wary skepticism seeing them reinvented.
Yes, this flick came out a year ago and yes I'm just seeing it now but it helped to have my expectations tempered by the blah reviews and absent word of mouth buzz.
Despite that, I was pretty damn impressed!
Voice acting restrained and impressive with spot on inflection for each character.
Story WAS cheesy - but suitably so. Totally a plot you'd see in a Saturday morning cartoon which provided fun kitsch.
Massive props to the music director! REAL punk song while Mikey's skateboarding, the great track when Ralph's fighting in the diner, and credible underground rap over the credits (also an homage to the quintessential 80s credits rap song)
The best part was how maturely it dealt with character conflict. They were real people/creatures with real flaws...even the bad guy wasn't some 2 dimensional villain.
All this praise does come at a cost, I don't want to over inflate expectations, but if you're a fan of the original series, this would definitely be time well spent!

FA+

Clearly this is a generational thing because it seems none of the 40-something critics "got it"
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/tmnt?q=tmnt :/
But the IMDb rating's not bad, a 6.7's pretty decent, no? About what I think it deserves...maybe more of a 7.
Yeah, during that fight I was holding my breath that a monster WOULDN'T interrupt, forcing the two to look at each other be like, we got to work TOGETHER! Yeah!
Phew, thank god it was better than that.
I don't think people understand how easy it would be to make this franchise shear and utter crap - the fact it's as good as it is, really is quite a testament.
It's back on top of my list now!
Let me know what you think :D
