May 17th 1814 our constitution was signed on Eidsvoll, as a sign to the Swedish that we did not accept their rule and did not approve of being given from Denmark to them. We wanted independence. That didn't come until 1905, but it would have been much longer, if at all had we not had our constitution. That's why we celebrate our national day on May 17th each year. in memory of the men who began our long road back to independence after centuries of Danish rule.
