You can usually find the grids for how everything lines up, and free templates if you google the right stuff. As far as skins go, you generally have to find stuff that's related to clothing. It still works all the same. Here are some tutorials on that, and links to the grids and stuff. This might also help. And this..
There should be a few skin templates here. For furry avatars, the actual face doesn't really matter, as long as the "head" texture matches the seam of the torso.

.... Unless you literally meant how to edit the skins. In which case, you go to like.. Edit appearance, edit skin, and open the little texture things where it says "tattoos". There's one for head, torso, and legs.

That is also helpful, I think ;u; I haven't tried modifying a skin in game yet.
