Ok. I know I just am getting into this whoooole breeding rats thing. I wasn't even too worried about color genetics, but a couple of breeders around me have been nice enough to help me with colors, markings, learning genetics, writing pedigrees when I can and even writing up adoption contracts. That being said there are some other breeders around me that ((yes have more experience)) but also have some of the snottiest 'I am God's gift to rat breeding' attitude that I've ever seen. As if they can make no mistake and when they do it's totally not their fault and they shouldnt be held accountable for it. This really puts me off. I love help and advice and even a bit of crit here and there, but not with such an ass hat attitude. Their rats are great 'looking'. But just the way this breeder is attitude wise. That puts me off. I'd never adopt from them now I don't care how fantastic they think they are or they claim their rats are. I mean I 'thought' the whole intent of getting into breeding was to better the breed. Rats that are healthier, sweethearts and I thought things like coat colors and such were last on the list. My bad. Guess I was wrong. Apparently seems to be all about "Im better than you, my rats are cuter than yours" these days. Another reason I'll never try to be an 'official' rattery. I'm not cut out for 'My rat is better than yours' arguments. I love all rats. =/

Fucking hell I hate those two morons. I really do.
:| What a moron.
I mean, I know you're new and all, but if they give you a tip, you'll take it, I'm sure, they don't need to talk down to you.
For some reason they always seem to be "scolding", and one of my friends quit breeding because of it (and she knew so much about genetics that taking about it with her made my head spin!).
I really wanted her to continue, because her goal was more health and longevity than pretty spots...and I know maintaining a style is important to some people and that's fine...but my greatest wish is for rats who are healthy and live longer. I don't really care what they look like, I just want them to have that great, friendly rat personality, and to be healthy. :(
I hope you don't give up breeding because of "holier than thou" attitudes. Good luck, and don't let them get you down!
She acknowledges that she likes breeding large rats, but she also keeps a close eye on health issues. I know this first hand because we adopted 2 sisters that were later discovered to have a lysosomal genetic disorder. She had been planning on breeding a separate sister until our first one had symptoms. She held off until the others started showing symptoms to, then decided against breeding that little lady at all.
