Are your eyes open or closed?
I've learned from all of my appearances (including this one) that there are two types of people who have noticed me, differentiated by how they choose to react and "play the game."
My hope is that people would try to "chase me down" and figure out who my alter ego is. I haven't really figured out what I would give as a prize to the person or group of people who solved the mystery (with proof, of course, since merely guessing isn't going to get you far), besides high regard and congratulations; perhaps I'd pay for registration of their convention of choice? But the number of "detectives" - eyes open, looking for clues and hints to solve the puzzle - is lower than I expected.
More often than not I find people see me as an opportunity to play along without ever breaking the fourth wall or killing the joy of hanging out with a live, bouncing otter! Furries are closing their eyes and choosing to see me as a character without a performer. Perhaps like the great Wizard of Oz and without some man behind a curtain. (And perhaps I am, for all you know!) They want to suspend disbelief, play along and enjoy the ride.
Of course, the way I keep slipping up, I wonder how much longer the show's going to last! :3
So which one are you? Detective, dreamer, or a little of each?

FA+

I discuss with my boy
I like to guess, but unless something is super duper obvious I don't tend to find proof.
But all in all I don't find you as just a random character thats fun and cool. I know you're someone else under there, and one day I hope to know who~
And I have my suspicions...
Mister E. Otter!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0vnHp48y8A
I have some circumstantial evidence, but I don't want to share it since it would tend to shift focus toward my suspect and watching for HIM to slip up. I don't think that's what you'd want. I know I wouldn't want that if I was in your webbed paws - the focus should remain on the fun bouncy otter!
I'm cheering for you!
I considered trying to follow you this weekend, track you down, figure out where you were staying, but what would the point of that be? You could very well have stashed a weekend worth of food in your room and only emerged while suited. I'm not that committed to trying to figure you out to spend a whole con trying to follow you, or wait for you to take a break. You were out a LOT though.
Honestly I feel (personally) it's a disservice, perhaps even an insult, to the character, to try and poke holes in this tightly-wrapped enigma you have crafted.
Did you have any particular memorable stalker-moments? I did at one point see three younger furs walking intently in the lobby muttering something about "I'm gonna figure this out once and for all" but then they walked past you and met up with someone else. Totally unrelated.
Anyway, I honestly hope you are still having fun. It takes a lot of commitment to spend so much time and effort toward perpetuating the character, to the point that you would spend time secretly around people you know, who would enjoy spending time with your alter ego, and instead push forth your mystery agenda. (Unless you DID appear in person and I am completely wrong in my suspicions.)
PS. a drawback of spending the entire con in suit.. you got kinda smelly by Sunday. The big fans in the headless lounge helped. Some.
After seeing the feedback in this journal thread and elsewhere, I might stop trying to call attention to the mystery and just let people enjoy having another otter around.
But the more I interacted with you, the more I wanted to see Mystery kept as such. XD It's part of the allure, I think. Honestly I think of it as a good thing that people are more interested in the character than trying desperately to figure out who the performer is; it means they're fully immersed in the character and persona that you're representing!
At least, that's my understanding of it.
The mystery is part of the character, so I don't *want* to solve the mystery.
So... maybe that's you? XD
Mister...
President!
O_O Here's an idea for you that might make things more challenging, you pare up with one of some of your closest friends and you practice the body language and gestures until you get them pat down and take turns being the otter and you all make a packed never to breath a word it to any one.
O_o but wouldn't the convention staff HAVE to know who you were, like Don't they need to some kinna officail ID or something before they let you in?
