BIG Computer death problem - To commissioners

::sighs:: What seems like a 3rd time in less then a year... the hard drive (less then a year old) might have died... It's the 3rd one I've gotten. I have never had this issue with any other computer besides this new one that a friend of mine built for me.
Good news: I have a couple tech support savy friends who might be able to help me..
Bad news: I might have lost -everything- on the drive including all of my artwork... Commissions I was working on... etc. on top of that... I now have no working computer to work on. (I am writting this from a friends computer) So this means at of right now.. my commissions progess is at a pause until I can get this problem sorted out. I hope I can be able to save this drive so that way I dont have to lose anything.. And can return right where I left off..
Right now I am out of town for two weeks house and baby sitting.. ( i brought my computer with me so I could work on things... glad that worked out well.... ) So I wont even be home for two weeks. All in all... this royally sucks.. and I should have done a better job backing up my stuff after the last two drives died on me. Im an moron..
Anyway.. I just wanted to give all my commissioners a heads up about the situation. If worse comes to total worse... i do have a really really shitty back up computer I can use.. (which is at home and being used by someone else at the moment.. but i can always take it back) Sorry everyone.

It's why I keep two full backups, even though I've never had a hard drive die on me.
just enjoy your time away and don't worry about this until you get back home.
Keep your computer off. The more a broken drive is powered on, the more broken it will become and the less likely it is you can recover your data. However, don't fret - it's very unlikely you lost all your data, and it can more than likely all be retrieved. If your local friends cannot do this for you, I will do my best to help out. Whatever happens, do not wipe that drive out; the data is there somewhere.
Also, if it's that new of a drive, it's still under warranty (unless you bought a refurbished drive). You should get a replacement free from the manufacturer, but you might not be able to take advantage of this until after you have a new drive and copy your data to it.
And, as you've discovered the hard way, good backups are key!
