The Blood Pack Page 2

The next morning I did as the day before. I got dressed, ate and then ran through the woods to watch the wolves again. I did this for many days, maybe a month or two, and slowly after a while they began to trust me enough to let me touch them and even sit among them.I had even met another kid, David was his name, who had been watching the wolves before i had moved here. so we both came everyday, though i came earlier and he waited till a few hours later before finally coming. David lived down the road from me but we quickly became best friends. One day I walked to where I always did but as I looked I noticed they were gone. I knew they were out hunting, I had walked here and found them gone many times before. So instead of sitting there and waiting boredly for them to return I figured I'd look around some and come back when they were back from hunting. So I took of in a random direction, not really worried about where I walked off too, i wouldn't go too far anyways. The morning sun was out and made the woods look beautiful every time and a small breeze came through the trees, making everything stir around me, drifting scents my way. I could smell the morning dew and the stream off a ways to my left, it was a beautiful morning. Everything was splendid until I heard the faint sounds of large paws. My heart began to speed, my blood turning to ice with fear as I turned around and saw what was following me. Right there, standing on two feet in front of me was a bear. I only stared, my mouth wide with fear, until she growled. That was when I took off running for my life. I don't know why I ran, everyone knows you can't out run a bear, or any dangerous wild animal for that matter, or out climb one. There was only one ending and I knew I would die but in my fear I ran, my adrenaline pushing me farther than I could have gone under normal circumstances but she finally hooked her claws around my pant leg, tripping me. I tried grabbing for a stick, a rock, anything I could try to use as a weapon but I never did get anything because before i could she had me pinned to the ground with her paw. I closed my eyes tightly, waiting for the pain but it never came. I heard footsteps, a lot of them, and they were running. My eyes darted to the sides to try and find them, my saviors. I knew I was safe now, the pack had come to help me. I don't know how many attacked him but I know a few did and while the bear was occupied with trying to get them off I scrambled a little ways off, the others standing protectively in front of me, growling threateningly. The others joined them, barking and growling at the bear. It growled, pacing some, before finally deciding against trying anymore and ran off. The pack then swarmed around me, licking at me and whining, their tails wagging. I put my face against the side of the alpha's face, breathing heavily into his fur.It was right then that I knew I was always safe with them, I was considered part of the pack now."Thank you...." I whispered and was thanked with a lick to my cheek.Once I was ok to walk we headed back to where the resided while they were here. David looked me over.
"what happened to you?" He asked, standing and walking over to us. The pack greeted him with licks to his hands and wagging tails, even a few yips.
"A bear almost ate me.."I grumbled some, pushing my hair from my face. He stared at me wide eyed for a moment."How did you live through it?!"
"The pack came."I grinned widely."I'm officially in the pack now!"I exclaimed, pleased. David had made it into the pack a few days ago. I don't know how he knew but when I came back from getting a drink from the stream close by he told me he was in, I didn't ask how though.
"Well welcome to the pack, Brother."He grinned his sharp teeth poking from his lips and clasped my shoulder firmly.I looked for a minute before saying something.
"Y-your teeth..they're..they're pointed in the front!"I said pointing. He poked at two of his front teeth and chuckled."I know. Yours are like that too. You just haven't noticed yet." My hand emmediately hot to my mouth, poking at my two canine teeth that were now even more pointed than a humans should be, like a wolves.
"W-wow! when did this happen?"I asked, still poking at me teeth.
"A couple of weeks ago actually."He shrugged, scratching his chin where he was beginning to grow a beard, needing to shave again. I look at him with a weird face, making him look questioningly at him.
"then why haven't I noticed yours till now??"I asked. Surely I would have noticed his and mine as well.
"I don't know. Your not very attentative Mike, you know."He smiled, teasing me as usual. I smirked and playfully pushed him.
"Well you should have told me then!"I chuckled as we sat down with the pack, leaning against the trees.
"I don't know, I never thought to mention it. All of our teeth have changed to be like theirs. They aren't human teeth anymore. I've never heard of something like this happening to someone before..."He said. I stuck my finger in my mouth, touching the other teeth before answering.
"It seems our bodies are changing to adjust to our new life styles."I shrugged. It was the only thing I could come up with but it was true. Why and how was a mystery but it was happening either way. David snapped me out of my thinking when he started again.
"You know...we're gonna have to leave with them at some point if we keep on...our bodies are changing...its weird in our society and you know they wont except us. Once we start growing hair and claws and stuff they'll notice..."He said looking at me with a worried look. David was my age but he lived on his own. He would be fine with leaving, no one would miss him or even notice but I had my mom to think about. I sighed and looked down, thinking for a moment before looking up at him again."I know...and I'll be ready when that day comes...I cant just leave without a trace...I have to try and tell my mom...If things go bad and I have to leave right away..I-Ill find the pack and we'll come your way. You'll know we're there. From there I guess we'll leave with them right away."I said, thinking up a plan already. David Nodded.
"It's a plan then.."He said and smiled softly some, looking up at the sky."We' should head home now..it's gonna get dark real soon."He said getting up and swiping the dirt and leaves off his pants. I stood, joining him. We said our goodbyes to the pack before we headed home. We walked in silence till we came to the edge of the woods. He smiled and lightly punched me in the arm."See ya tomorrow pack mate."He grinned, reminding me of my acceptance into the pack. I smiled back and lightly chuckled."See ya."I said before walking off. I went into the house and told mom about my day while we ate dinner. She was always so interested to know what i was up to since I was always gone all day long. I took a nice shower to clean myself up before finally going to bed. I yawned tiredly as I layed in my bed, above the sheets and curled into a ball. When I woke in the morning the first thing I thought was how Quiet the house must be, I could hear so well. I could hear cars passing by outside and the neighbors outside, getting in their car to go somewhere. I opened my eyes and sat up, sitting there for a moment before standing up. I stretched, yawning, and as I ran my hands through my hair, as I always did in the mornings, I stopped. There was something on my head and it was furry. The first thing i thought was some kind of rat so in a panick i grabbed what it was and tried to sling it off my head. I let go quickly as pain shot through my skull and easily this time I let my fingers trace the shape of what it was. I gasped and ran out of my room, right into the bathroom and to the mirror. There, atop my head, were a pair of ears.
"what happened to you?" He asked, standing and walking over to us. The pack greeted him with licks to his hands and wagging tails, even a few yips.
