A question to fursuit makers or anyone shipping a large volume of very large items (larger than 18' square). Where do you get boxes?
So far in the USA I've only shipped a limited number of large costumes but it's getting to the point where i need a good supply of large, sturdy boxes. And my old Canadian resources don't work down here lol.
Suggestions?

Everyone's telling me to ask supermarkets or other stores, they just bin them after deliveries apparently.
I'm in the midst of moving, and had to bring my three partials to my new place yesterday
All three fit easily in one "large" box
in terms of brand new boxes, a quick google search found me several retailers: http://www.boxcity.com/Scripts/default.asp http://www.uline.com/ http://www.cardboardboxshop.com.au/ http://www.bladenbox.com/PackagingSolutions.aspx
hope those help.
If you need something really bombproof, U-Haul used to sell a double-walled box for packing televisions. But I don't know if they still have that now that TVs are all flat and stuff.
Also, a secret for making any cardboard box a lot stronger: glue the flaps.

You get better pricing than from Home Depot or UHaul or whatever if you order them in bulk yourself. If you KNOW you will be using several larger boxes it's a good place to start.
I also reuse fur shipment boxes, the Fabric.com ones are pretty decent most of the time and are in really good shape when they get here (but I'm only one state away from their warehouse) though I don't think they ever send any larger than 18x18x18. If they have more than that, I usually get two boxes from them.
This is the only place I get mine, unless I come across some for free. Go to walmart or some packing supply store and try to buy a box and it's like $6 for this tiny little thing. Ridiculous when you think of how many boxes get trashed every single day. GOOD BOXES THAT I CAN USE.
I think it looks very professional and neat :) Dunno what the costs of that are though. Otherwise, you usually can get boxes at the post office as well.
I am thinking about buying them from Uhaul because of the standard size business, but then again that could also mean paying for empty space if I'm sending a smaller costume. When I saw some in person they didn't exactly have many sizes available :/
I hope this helped.
You can choose sizes and they are the more reasonably priced.
You buy in a bulk set of 25 at a time usually.
A 18"x18"x18" box = $1.56 a box in a 25 piece bundle.
Largest is 36" x 36" x 36" for $6.45 a box
They have other shapes besides cubes though ^^

The small Uhaul boxes are $1.43.
They are strong and sturdy but might cost some money.
EBAY.
anywho i don't live in the us so i don't any any places
For ordering in bulk, https://www.uline.com. It's where UPS stores get their boxes, and it'll likely be your cheapest option. They also sell all manner of packing supplies as well as workstation stuff like racks, tables, workmats, cutter things, laminating things, storage tubs, storage cubbies, storage rolls...
Uline.com ships you boxes in bulk(fairly cheaply) with 1000s of different sizes. Here I just pulled up the price list for sizes 18"-23".
You can also try craigslist, sometimes they list boxes under "for sale" or "free" sections.
http://www.usedcardboardboxes.com sells used carboard boxes. Less numbers than Uline and also more expensive, but free shipping and maybe you want the less quantity. -shurgs-
Good luck!
They do carry 2 sizes larger too, and they are anywhere between 50 cents and $2 at most.
I hope this helped.
