The phone rings and life changes...............

First off - thanks to all that drop in and fav or watch me. Special thanks to those of you out there, and you know who you are!!! *huggers and smoochers*
OK - I was sitting on my butt quilting away this past Sun and the phone rings. In a very short time I'm on the freeway doing 80 mph heading south. There is an abandoned kitten and that's about all I know. It looks like bad timing. Unfortunately someone let their dog out just when a mama kitty was transporting the kitten somewhere. Mama dropped the kitten and saved herself for the sake of her litter. That's nature for you.
*steps on her soapbox* This wouldn't happen if people would spay or neuter their pets. In many places there are discount places that offer this service on a sliding scale for payment. In Houston, TX we have S.N.A.P. They offer a wonderful service and do a decent job.
*deep breath* On with the story. The kitten was in great shape, about 2 weeks old, probably female, no fleas, no injuries that could be seen. I scoop up the little one and head north of my favourite feed store. I know that they can help me pick out a formula and offer assistance. I did call the S.P.C.A. but they destroy any kittens dropped off under 8 weeks of age - so that wasn't even a possibility. At the feed store they showed me how to stimulate the little one's butt so she could poop and pee, approved the little bottle I brought and sold me the formula that they thought was best. Wabash Antiques and Feed is a rocking store in the middle of a big city - it is GREAT!!!
I have never taken care of a very young puppy or cat before. We had pets growing up, but they were always altered. This is a very new experience for me.
It is now Tues and the little girl has gained .2-.3 ounces, eats every 3-4 hours and has peed all over me. I have formula all over my clothes, but who cares. She is grey and black, medium long hair, purrs when I cuddle her and has a little green hippo toy as a litter-mate. My quilting has slowed considerably as I can only do it when she sleeps, but I will get it done and move on to my next project.
I have not named her yet just in case she doesn't make it but I do have a name picked out. Yes we are going to keep her if she continues to grow into a healthy kitty. So far, so good. *says in a whisper so as not to jinx anything* Her name will be Lyra.

My best wishes to you and your pet :3!
Good luck with the mitten, photo updates of her would be lovely :3 Hope you have better luck than my family:
1st cat- Tail lopped half off by a wheat thresher, lived to be 22.
2nd and 3rd- One lost front leg when she fell asleep in neighbours lawnmower, became more affectionate afterwards. The other is just plain stupid :P He claws at chairs, gets them caught and hangs there unable to escape XD
Holly's a mommy! ^ ^
you're always great at raising the young'ns into greatness *nudge*
Zebra approves....
*goes back to eavesdropping behind the door*

Just yesterday my dog tried to get an injured bird. He's not a baby, but he's young. My dog is a Yorkshire Terrier so...yeah. He'd eat birds and mice. We have him in a little cage now with seed and we're hoping his wing isn't broken. If it heals we'll let him go...if it doesn't....we're gonna buy a proper cage. :p
I don't mean to preach as I type this paragraph.......As for the bird - what kind of bird? IF it is a native bird of Texas it is illegal to house them, even for rehabilitation purposes without a rehab license. The bird may have a better chance of surviving if you do some research and find your local wildlife rehab facility (hopefully there is one close by). They have vets and licensed volunteers that either nurse the wounded to release or keep the animal as a teaching aid.
As I said, we're not sure what kind of bird it is. We thought it was a finch at first, but it seems like it's too big...so maybe a chickadee? I have no idea if those are native birds, either.
As for the kitties, yeah...they're fatties. They play with our dog. XD
A touching story. I hope the kitten provides much happiness! :3
I never seen a mother kitty cat give up her kitten before usually they would fight and hiss, etc.
Where did this happen? Don't forget to post pictures ^_^
Good luck with the kitten! I hope she is fun and never decides to use your quilts as scratch pads. ^^;;
OH oh - the cats have never damaged any of my quilts BUT our rottie has chewed through one to get to the treat that was buried beneath it. Needless to say it is patched and still in use!
Not trying to frighten/freak you out or anything, but I'd hate for you to have to go through what I did.
