COME JOIN US! Okay I have very few pet peeves but I think I've developed a new one. What is it with these artists that want to do art only for the attention they get from it? That's not what art is about at all! I cannot even begin to tell you how annoyed it makes me when I run across several journals from several artists that are like this:
"I'm not getting the attention I deserve for the drawings I do! So I'm quitting! (at least until enough of my friends kiss my ass)"
or
"I opened for commissions twice before and not for very long. No one commissioned me so I quit. You all hate me! Baaaaaaaw!"
Art is not about the attention you receive from it guys. Its about doing something you enjoy! Bringing characters to life, making people smile, putting some beauty into the world. If you can't handle the fact that you have to work long and hard to get a fanbase at all, this isn't for you.
It can take years of trying, failing and trying again to get anywhere. You have to put yourself on the line everyday and advertise blatantly to get anywhere. There is no instant gratification in this business other than the satisfaction of being proud of something you drew. That is all.

Some people just want to be attention seekers, They thrive on being noticed. But ye like you said, it takes years, and then you are competing with other amazing artists. People should draw because they love doing it, and the whole doing it for money as a nice added bonus. :3

Stuff Like what I do with pixel art tends to be ignored simply because it isn't gratifying for others to look at half the time.. Its all I can do since All I have is Microsoft paint and no camera... Kinda hoping eventually to get a commish from somebody to Redraw my dragonic form since all I have right now is a line picture I did on a cnc program(because I was bored in class)
