Someone please explain this pansexuality bullshit to me
13 years ago
It's bisexuality. This is a small thing that went on between myself and someone I know. I seriously would like a legitimate reason as to why pan is different from bi and not just a "oh I'm different pay attention to me." It starts off with me.
Pan - Likes everything from male and female to intersex and herm. Now, seeing as all of them are classified as male or female by not only medical science but the person themselves, it's the same thing. The only exception I see would be herms AKA intersexed but in that sense they usually choose one and live life as that so still male or female. Therefore - Bi. (I realize I fucked up a bit in this description)
Pansexuality is more then that....pansexual: not limited or inhibited in sexual choice with regard to gender or activity. Pansexuality is different from bisexuality. Bisexual people are attracted to both men and women, but pansexual people can be attracted to any people. This includes people who are neither male nor female. Pansexuality is the opposite to asexuality, as pansexuality means a person may be sexually attracted to anyone, but asexuality means a person is sexually attracted to no one. However, pansexuals are not attracted to everyone they meet, nor do they necessarily have strong sex drives.
But they're attracted to both genders still. Therefore bisexual. M2F or F2M? Still bisexual as long as that bisexual has an open mind. Intersexed? Yup still bisexual because they're both, which the bi is ok with in the first place (provided he/she is open-minded). Or is pansexual just like an open-minded bisexual?
..... no.... but whatever
Well I'd just like to know how it's different. There are really only three genders because no one is neither. There's male, female, intersexed. Bi's are for all three teams. Humans don't have an otherkin. If someone is M2F or F2M the bi is still good to go provided open mind. I don't see any difference at all.
EDIT: The friend is the first one is this case.
1.Bisexual implies the presence of only two sets of genders. Whereas pansexual implies that there are more genders.
2.While pansexual individuals are attracted to men, women, transgender, transsexual and intersex individuals, bisexual individuals are only attracted to their same sex or the opposite sex.
3.Pansexual individuals do not care for genders but only cares for personality. Whereas, bisexuals are more attracted to the gender thing and relationships.
4.Bisexuals most often have the pressure to choose between gay and straight. They identify themselves as homosexuals or heterosexuals. Pansexual individuals, on the other hand do have such orientation. They skip the binaries and are outside such purviews.
1. But there aren't. Unless we include herms, in which by your view in 4 saying that Bis always pick one or the other to be, then so would herms, making it once again just 2. If we discount both of those, then there are three. However, an open-minded bi would be fine with a herm. M2F and F2M are still male or female. There are 2 genders, period. If we count herms as another, there are three, but open-minded Bis don't care. So it's still bi.
2. Not if they're open-minded.
3. Really? So I'm attracted to the vagina/dick and not the person. The sex is the only thing I think about. I don't care whether the person I'm with is a total bitch or not, I just care they can screw me. Of course not. Completely useless and untrue point.
4. In which case, I would expected pansexuals would as well. As long as the bi doesn't cave to pressure, then no, we proclaim ourselves as bi because we know we're bi. Same thing pans would do in your point. Therefore, still bi.
Still not seeing a hint of difference.

There's also 'omnisexual' which declares an active intent to have sex with everyone. As in propositioning pretty much every person you meet with no regards to age, gender, appearance, etc. Most restrict themselves to humans they aren't related to by blood, but not all are so picky. Unlike 'pansexual,' most of the self-proclaimed omnisexuals I've met seem to be well aware of the meaning and live up to it.
I think most people who call themselves pansexual really are bisexual, but pansexual is a totally different word and everybody wants to be a special snowflake.
-These are my exact thoughts. I only say that most should be all, but I imagine some people just identify themselves as pan because they're kinda confused. But when you explain they go 'oh ok you're right that DOESN'T make any sense.' Then they re-class themselves as bi and move on. Other than that though I agree with everything in your post.
While extremely true I still have yet to receive even one semi-solid reason they are different from several "pansexuals". I more agree with what Kardas said in that someone made it up because everyone wants to be a "special snowflake" and others are taking on that role for the same reason.
On the case of trans, trans are still one or the other, so, no difference there.
