Question: How are you so fluffy?

Answer: My physiology is based on the Mathraxian, or Emperor Gryphon, and thusly my body is adapted for extremely high-altitude flights, which were relatively common among the species, useful for traversing the vast distances of their territories. This meant that the flight muscles of the Mathraxian needed protection from the icy temperatures above the clouds - since the adapted interweaving muscle fibres of an Emperor is very efficient and generates relatively little heat, it can be easily frozen up by low temperatures, making the incredibly dense muscle stiff and near-useless. Therefore, we gryphons evolved an exceptionally thick "fluff" of feathers over the chest, where the flight muscles could be found, as well as overthe rest of the body.

The "barbs" of the feathers of my downy plumage is actually composed of incredibly thin, hollow tubes - literally only a couple of nanometres in width. This was originally designed to store pockets of warm air, and so keep the body snug, but it also results in an uniquely soft, silky feeling to my feathers. Thusly, a gryphon's plumage is exceptionally good snuggling.
