Undercutting and Commissioning.

... I remember reading an article about why Undercutting is bad if you do commissions.
Allow me to retort
There is someone out there that is as good as you are or better, with cheaper rates, and possibly even better work ethic.
I say this as someone who is always commissioning people. I say this without shame, I have no qualms letting people know that as much as I love your work, if I look hard enough, I'll find someone who is as good or better than you AND much cheaper, and thus I'll give my money to them instead.
I do make exceptions, but those are reserved for friends.
And for the record, I'm extremely happy with just about everyone I've commissioned so far -- a few bumps here and there, but I just move on and never commission those people again.

Well, there's some artists that can charge hundreds of dollars and get away with it, artists that have been in the business since the late 90s and have nourished their fame -- I could think of several that fall in this category.
But I've seen artists that really have no leg to stand on and charge more than I'd be willing to pay -- they're not bad per se, but I know that if I look around, I'll find someone else who matches what I want for the price I want.
I guess what I'm saying, is, if you're starting out, don't aim for the stars right off the bat or you'll never leave off the ground.
