That's because half the country is trying to behave like a developed nation while the other half is trying to turn us into a dangerously well armed libertarian jesusland clusterfuck.
Fine/tax. The language is irrelevant, the effect is the same. The only thing better than watching the right-wing rage is knowing the highest court in our country is above partisan fuckfuck games after all.
I think it's a good step in the right direction. The Affordable Care Act left much to be desired after the GOP blocked the public option, but this legislation greatly expands oversight over HMOs and increases the availability of health insurance. The so called invividual mandate was the only part of the bill I thought the SCOTUS would strike down, and I take some issue with it myself honestly. The bottom line though is that health care is something every American needs and this legislation helps make it something everyone can afford. This act is a step in the rightection of free medical care for everyone, just like we in the Military enjoy and FDR had tried to establish.
Healthcare costs are higher in the US than any other developed western nation. This is an unsustainable status quo caused by systematic inefficiency, waste, and profiteering. I think that's a far bigger hazard to the US populous and our businesses than anything contained in this piece of legislation.
While yes, I have healthcare myself (paid in full by tax dollars, socialized medicine), that doesn't mean that I'm so self concerned that I don't care about my friends and family's access to reasonable medical care. In that way alone, it's not just a political step but personal. Aside from that I have no intention of staying in this organization; in fact there are less than 180 days left on my contract. While I plan on transitioning from one government job with a healthcare plan to another, who knows. It's in my personal interest to live in a society where regardless of what happens I know I won't be one unforeseen illness away from financial ruin.

I'm glad. Hopefully this will lead to better healthcare for more people, especially since so many desperately need it.
