i dont really care how big they are, i just really dont want to see diaper and scat stuff anymore...
not to mention that many artists are complaining about it because they cant label their work properly :P
but i really dont care if someone is into scat as long as they dont get shit all over me when they touch me XD
i hope im not sending split signals with what i just said if i am sorry i didnt mean to i just dont know how to word it
I don't watch anyone who's interested in that stuff, but I don't bother them either, as long as they don't bother me. For that matter, I haven't had anyone bother me on Fur Affinity yet!
but something stop to people posting random things like "i can't be bothered to tag this" would be nice
i guess there could be tag suggestion list thing like they have on Inkbunny and Sofurry.
so there are list you can use to suggest a few things for you.
its a only suggestion thing, so we can't force people to use it.
We can't even get people to follow the "FA isn't Photobucket" rule.
So I seriously doubt anyone would pay attention to a rule about keywords.
Oh wait I forgot this is FA nobody leaves without a massive drama bomb and gallery purge
however, labeling it is also a smart thing so that others who do like it can find it easily. that is why many people actually are doing it. so you can filter out at least a little bit.
but sometimes people just like to be assholes... for example, i asked an artist here on FA a couple months ago if he could use proper thumbnails for his diaper stuff. he changed it by cropping it so that you can see the shitty diaper only and added a "deal with it" caption XP and naturally all his fans started to chime in screaming "BAAWWW JUST USE THE MATURE FILTER!!"
Finally, I think all mature and higher rated submissions should require a custom warning thumbnail before they can be submitted. But that's just me.
they let you completely filter adult and mature stuff which is cool. and they already have keywords implemented. so all that is really left to do is let us filter out submissions with certain titles and keywords and they would be golden!
a way to report a submission because of the lack of keywords would be great as well of course.
I don't remember if YG! had a keyword system or not but the list of premade catergories was very well done and made it easy to bot flag your content and search/filter based of content.
Keyword systems rely too much on spelling [meaning colour won't find color, or the incorrectly spelled coler XD] as well as on people knowing the right terms in the first place or bothering to write out every single one of the possible tags for the piece.
Not being able to avoid themes you dislike is what gets people riled up, so that's probably what should be the focus of any keyword/rating system.
What about a system where when you submit there is a list of objectionable content, and if your submissions has any of that it MUST include it or it will get flagged. That would force people to populate that list. Lots of downsides though. Just simply coming up with that list would be pretty awful, and trying to make it short yet still cover everything. Probably not feasible, but maybe someone else has a better idea or variation.
Example: say some does a group picture with 20 characters all of different species, current system means they get one species selection from the drop-down menu and have to manually type in the other 19 [plus whatever other keywords might be applicable.] By setting up lists with checkboxes there could be a page during submission which is the species page, it contains all the currently included ones from the list but laid out with tickboxes next to them allowing the artist to just tick the 20 and submit [no chance of spelling issues.] Should the list not have all 20 species -then- you would use the keyword system for whatever is missing.
This example could be used for just about any of the main topics [genders, sexualities, sexual activities, species, etc.] Allowing submissions to be comprehensively, consistently and easily labelled and this same system could be applied to both search and block features to create a far more usable site.
Of course the OTHER issue is the 7 million already submitted pictures. Maybe use Mechanical Turk to go through all the submissions and categorize them, heh! That would be extremely amusing to watch.
Also, what if our image contains nothing that is suggested in the check list? how will we deal with that?
If your image does not contain anything 'offensive' then none of the offensive tags need to be checked. The idea was to have a list of 'extreme' kinks that people could choose to not show up when they browse.
As I said above, I doubt anything like this will be set up, it's a lot of work, has flaws, and would be hard to maintain and fix older submissions. But you never know when someone will look at an idea and come up with something related that WILL work, so I threw it out there.
that is what i was referring to abuse of power. I am not sure what that is, but it sounds like an autorun program or something.
People like you are what's wrong with everything these days.
Followed by
" Maybe use Mechanical Turk"
that is what i was referring to abuse of power. I am not sure what that is, but it sounds like an autorun program or something.
If you don't see anything wrong here there's nothing that can be done about you.
"that's abusing power"
without the consent of the owner.
I don't see how a misguided person is "wrong" with today. You don't need to be rude to people who have an opinion that is different than yours.
"People like you are what's wrong with everything these days. "
It's a matter of you not knowing what something is yet being all "OMG THIS IS SO EVIL"
Abuse does not always mean "evil"
I could not know what a decepticon is, but judging from its name, I could think it is "evil".
Yeah that's what I thought. /All/ of those systems can be used - at the same time, no less - when the system groups images by tags.
The tag /interface/ is the problem with tags, because as you said a new user can't be expected to understand how to use any given site's tag system. Providing a simple tutorial and a method of selecting common or recurring tags, or allowing users to "categorize" submissions (which does nothing more than apply a TAG representing that category.) would make the system much more intuitive.
All art sites should base themselves on the tag system whether the user knows they're using a tag system or not.
"people block cub art? oh well, better leave that bit out then!"
and reporting people for using the system correctly wont really work as well, the staff is rather slow right now. i still have trouble tickets from the beginning of june kicking around, adding a whole new thing that you can report would ony serve to slow them down even more.
on the users profile page it does show the tumbnails. but in the gallery itself, on the front page of FA and in the browse section it doesnt use the custom thumbs.
Maybe for such adult content ( Hard Fetishes ), they should be REQUIRED to use thumbnails ( Hard being things such as Egg Laying, Scat, Diaper, ect anything the majority of the fandom sees as excessively strange. Want a way to figure out what is excessively strange ' For Realz ' ? Run a poll! ).
But, this is only when the thumbnails are finally fixed for the Submission area for the persons watchlists!
Lets get this fixed!
Disclaimer: I neither hate, or enjoy such things. Simply aint my cup of tea, and it is tiring to constantly see such things. Hate my suggestion? COMEATMEBRO.
but they really are too small at that size...
Quote myself from twitter. :)
***Now tell me furaffinity tell me, wheres the submissions per page value thats bigger than 60... or auto show next page feature? >.>***
I demand to know! Please! ^^
I wish there were some way to change it back. I do like the way they do it, though. the layout is good, but it just lags so much. )= Curse this computer!
Go to your settings and turn off auto-scroll :)
However, that doesn't fix the "Image Not Found" placeholder affecting the oldest pics in my gallery (their custom thumbnails are visible on the "change submission file" screen, but nowhere else), and I can't find anything specific in the forums regarding that problem.
(ok, maybe it is discussed, but searching "image not found" brings up a blizzard of unrelated posts)
Many people want the custom back, which if you read above going to 100x restores that sort of thing I believe, as well as the granny size to go back down a little.
They have done what was asked of them so far, and it has also been noted that they are trying to fix the customs still. Patience dear, they are not super heroes :3
Apart from that, I don't know why people need the tumbnails. :B
Which means they'll probably put in tag filters before they fix thumbnails D:
and that means they'll never fix thumbnails
I find it very annoying to have to look at pictures one-by-one-by-one-by- .
The thumbnail was invented to show the entire picture in reduced scale; I am mature enough to skip or ignore those not-of-my-current-interest.
Thanks for your continued interest and support.
If your browsing someone's gallery, chances are you're fine with seeing whatever they have in it, whereas you may want filters on the recent subs.
So... I agree with this message. :P make it optional
1) Allow us to choose the font size the site displays in [it's ridiculously small at higher resolutions.]
2) Please add at least a basic content checklist with keywords being relegated to an extra [it should supplement the system, not be the system.]
I don't remember if YG! had a keyword system or not but the list of premade catergories was very well done and made it easy to bot flag your content and search/filter based of content.

I don't know anymore :1
But! This will help a lot if my internet decides to be terrible and take 5 minutes to load a page of icons.
Check the MIME type (not file extension) of uploaded images. Actual SWFs should be the only thing in Flash category.
JPEG: no extra action required.
PNG: Check for alpha channel, and use it when resizing - if RGBA is too big at size, set the background to *one of FA's background colors* before collapsing the alpha.
GIF: Check for alpha channel and animation. TRY to keep both when resizing. PARTICULARLY if a separately-provided thumbnail already fits within FA's dimensions/filesize requirements for the thumbnail. At that point, smaller sizes should *always* keep the animation and alpha if they exist. If there's no thumbnail, try resizing the main image with alpha and animation to fit. If that doesn't work, clip to a single frame (probably the first- but don't just flatten them all together), and see if it fits using alpha if needed. :p
etc, etc, etc.
For example, if I have my thumbnails set at 100px, and I add a thumbnail of 100px to it, how will it show to viewers that have their thumbnails set to show at 150px/200px?
Ohh so funny...!!
if I browse back under a category to like page 30 or so then leave i'd have to spend 10 mins clicking next page to get where I was, would be a lot better if there were page skip buttons.
I can do it with the url, but only with the general browser (that shows all submissions, not a single category) and in galleries/faves, which kinda sucks
I still see the full horror of the images - which kinda defeats the point of having thumbnails.
The POINT of having thumbnails is to quickly display as many images as possible on a single page so you can verify which one you want to see the larger size of. Thumbnails are not silly little gimmicks for people to filter out what they don't like and play pranks on everyone; the very definition of a thumbnail is to be a smaller version of the source image, for ease of viewing and to reduce strain on the server by not loading the entire image when someone doesn't want to see it. To do otherwise is to spite the only reason you would ever add thumbnails to a site and is very stupid.
The problem is that unless FurAffinity is coded over again from the ground up - and I know they won't be doing that for a very long time - there's no way for users to reliably filter anything. You'll always be forced, by some flaw in the coding or design, to see shit you don't want to see (and really, this is good for you - it teaches you to stop being a prude and roll with it when you're minorly inconvenienced by garbage on your screen.) Thus, it lacks many features of other furry sites (e.g. Inkbunny) such as blacklisting tags or even entire artists.
The other problem, arguably more major, is that it doesn't matter how much FurAffinity's system improves because its users are too fucking retarded to use it properly. It doesn't matter how good the system is if its users aren't good enough.
I was more thinking of sparing people seeing some of my works because my stuff is feral (i.e not to everybody's taste).
I mean - that was my thinking because FA's current system doesn't allow for filtering other than 'mature' or 'adult' - I expect that people who produce work that is a bit more 'out there' (like vore or diaper or worse) need to be able to filter their work further using thumbnails that have a warning on them such as 'VORE' or 'DIAPER' or 'WORSE' to avoid getting too many complaints - and looking at some of the other comments on this page that seems to be the case.
You can't really call users stupid for using thumbnails in a way other than what you determine is THE CORRECT AND ONLY WAY - if anything they're actually trying to be considerate to other users.
I didn't mean to accuse you specifically of being a prude and I apologize for the misunderstanding; I meant a general anonymous user who panics instantly at a single thumbnail that isn't to his tastes appearing on his screen. It's how life works. People are going to see shit they don't want to see, and censoring everything they don't like only encourages them to become spoiled twats.
You see how people bitch and complain when they're exposed to something they don't like? The solution is to keep exposing them. They'll get used to it, stop crying, and become a better person for it.
I have never faulted a user on FurAffinity for their "disgusting" work appearing to me because they have /no choice/ in the matter, and I have no way to block it.
FurAffinity really isn't a place for thin-skinned people - if those kinds of people are going to browse here they should filter everything that isn't for general viewing.
I'll state over and over again that Inkbunny is so much better than FA it isn't funny and that its users actually make a conscious effort to tag their work properly and that you can actually block tags and entire artists and actually see results, though.
Fucking furries.
Three should be the requirement. This will demand someone think of three tags, which for an average person will most likely be an alternative fetish if any, a gender, and the name of the character (e.g. "fat female applejack"). More than adequate for an average image, yes?
You see, some time ago when I came on FA after some computer down-time, the icons for submissions weren't there, only the category icons for art, text, and the like--and clicking on them didn't take me anywhere, so I had to click the username to go to their page to see what was new.
I was able to get into the submission to see it then, but only after clicking it for full-view. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem at the moment or not, but I can't figure out what the cause is. < <;
Sorry if I'm bothering you with this Fen, I just thought I'd let you know.
Nice to see a site update.
(Rather than hiding my idiotic mistake, I'm leaving it here for others if they have the same problem :3)
It's not a big deal or anything; more a minor annoyance than an issue...
