So ponies have ruined the fandom?
I dared to make a comment earlier today on someone's journal claiming that My Little Pony has ruined this fandom, being as that it's a show aimed at little girls. I used logic and poked holes at them, stating that the other shows they referenced were also aimed at little children and lo and behold, I'm blocked. I guess when you use logic to make someone's arguement invalid, it's just a bad idea. :D
If you don't like ponies, fine. Don't like bronies? Fine. To come along and say that's the cause of the fandom being ruined? That's a joke, I've been a member of the fandom for over 16 years now, I've seen it go through all sorts of ups and downs. I've heard these comments before, and lets run down a quick list of what has claimed to ruined the fandom before:
Lion King, Sonic, Pokemon, those are just the big three. Though seems that they aren't ruining the fandom anymore, and we adapted to having them be part of the culture, or whatever you wish to address it as it stands.
Ponies are just another thing that furries have latched onto, and it's such a terrible thing cause it promotes friendship, has decent animation and enjoyable characters. Myself, I personally don't care for the show, but do I think it's going to ruin things? Nope.
People claim they are missing characteristics to be furry, I wish I could find out what those are. What characteristics does it have to have? I'm just a little curious. I mean Watership down is classified by most furs as fur friendly and it's not really any different a setup than My Little pony. It's a difficult dilemma to decide upon. Who gets to make those choices, Also then once those choices are made, where do we stop? Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron is also considered furry, but lacks the concept of speech from the horses in there. People love the horse from Tangled, but again, no speech there from that horse. They act far more aware than a normal animal would.
Anthropomorphism or personification is any attribution of human characteristics (or characteristics assumed to belong only to humans) to other animals, non-living things, phenomena, material states, objects or abstract concepts, such as organizations, governments, spirits or deities.
That's the definition, and oddly enough that seems to apply rather well to My Little Pony. let's make a little checklist here:
1. They speak
2. They live in houses(not stables, houses there is a difference.)
3. They have a culture developed
4. They use written language
I don't mind people not liking something, but when you make it a broad assumption that it's what's bringing down the fandom, there is the problem.
If you wish to block me, at least have the decency to leave the comment viewable on a journal cause all it does is enforce the fact you don't like to have people point out problems with your logic. I will not now, or ever see the point of blocking someone from posting in my journal, if I don't like your opinion, I'll let you know, but don't need to hide it from everyone's view.

Only reason I don't cared for MLP is because the hype itself made me sick of it. And strangely enough, being a female, I feel weird trying to get into it. Wrap your head around THAT ONE. lol
Just because MLP is cute and I dislike it, does not mean I'm a hypocrite, or hate cute things, or anything like that.
WHAT WHUT!?!?!?!?!?! when did this become an SCA thing!
Its a fad, like anyother thing that has popped up in the fandom and died out as soon as everyone started to get tired of it. I like it...why? Because its something my 2year old son will sit still long enough to watch.
I wouldnt worry too much about it.
