What was supposed to be only the greatest of all anticipation of Nolan's final movie in the epic trilogy,"The Dark Knight Rises" has been marred by some lunatic, who God only knows, decided to break into a packed theater during the midnight showing and open fire.

This is appalling beyond words and now we may forever wonder if theaters will be safe during midnight showings anymore thanks to this nut job >:/

Being former security for the century / now cinemark theater group, (( this is before they cut out the sheriff that used to sit on site during the weekends, and midnight showings like this, )) I know the one where i worked at, never let anyone come in full costume, or weapons. As for how the person got in, they, the news, finally are getting it right and that the person had to have purchased the ticket to get in, and go out the back of the theater, propping the door open, and then coming back in, would have been hard to do, without getting noticed by either the sheriff or myself.
What's really disturbing is trying to figure out why. Dressing up and trying to be "the joker' was going to do what, for him. All of this that he did before hand, shows premeditation to doing this. death penalty should apply, but somehow i think the shooter was anticipating that. Notoriety? There has to be more reason behind it then that.
Anyway, the point being, cinemark is part to blame in the lack of safety of the patrons. I'm not sure how they do it in colorado, but if it's anything like they did in california, to save a few bucks over having more high profile sheriff / police on the site. This could have been averted.
Hired private security like Paladin etc. versus the onsite security that was my sole job working at the theater, don't have as much invested in keeping a vigilant eye out on the building itself. This incident was the biggest fear that I, as security when i worked for century, had feared would happen.
One of the things i did when i went to see the movie today, was talk with one of the former co-workers there to make sure the ticket takers kept their eyes out. and any security on site was ramped up . course channel 13 was also at the theater this morning too.
The movie is. awesome though.
