i work at a fast food restaurant. one of my favorite things at work is when customers ask for a cup for water, and then walk over to the drink machine and proceed to pour themselves a soda instead. they believe themselves to be slick, and that i won’t notice.
in this restaurant, a medium (32oz) drink will cost you $1.09. if you’re a senior citizen, our small drink will put you out a whopping .64 fucking cents. i caught two people stealing in this way today.
they didn’t believe they were doing anything wrong, but they were costing the restaurant money. money that could go to payroll, that would help prevent, say, someone’s weekly hours being sliced in half because the restaurant can’t afford to pay them for the amount of time they used to work.
(fun fact, that someone is me. that someone is also every single one of my hourly coworkers.)
if you are rich enough to buy fast food, you are rich enough to buy the cheap soda along with it. end of fucking story.
to be fair, though, the two people i caught were nice about it. all it took for the senior citizen was a glance at his cup when i walked by his seat; he poured himself water on the way out. for the other guy, i just calmly pointed out that i saw what he did. after protesting about me being “confused”, he eventually poured out the soda (kinda wished that he hadn’t; he could’ve at least drank it instead of wasting it) and got water like he had said he would.

I'm not hating or anything, but it does it seem more prevalent with them more than anyone else.
i'm on break right now, a guy came through earlier and was literally screaming at the drive-thru cashier because he didn't like the way his milkshakes looked. and he was giving her shit for not immediately giving him straws.
people like that can just have a heart attack.
"WELL THE OTHER [RESTAURANT] DOESN'T CHARGE FOR HONEY MUSTARD." you know, the other restaurant she had never been to before.
my boyfriend told me that i should've just given her the honey mustard to get her out of there, but if i did i would've been rewarding her godawful behavior, which would encourage her to do it again elsewhere. so fuck that.
