Is it just telling you that it doesn't know how to open it, or something else?

Regardless, you should make sure SAI is completely shut down before tinkering with those files.

Yeah it doesn't know what program to open it with and to be honest neither do I. I don't want to do something wacky and convert the files into something that won't work. I should make a back up state so I can revert to it if I screw something up because it looks like this is down to experimentation.

Ok:

- When you doublecklick the file, a window should pop up that tells you that windows can't open the file. There should be two selections, pick the one that says something like... "Select from list of installed programs..."

- In the window that pops up, look for notepad.exe or just Notepad, it's got an icon that shows a small, partially open, bright blue paper notebook.

- Make sure the box that says "Always open file with this program" is checked.

- Now click ok. The file should be opening in a small text editor now, and from now on all .conf files will open in that text editor when doubleclicked.


The procedure is pretty much the same with all windows versions since XP, just more or less fancy looking

Your texts might be slightly different, since I only have German windows and have to guess at the english versions..

So note pad will work with out screwing anything up? That was my first instinct but I didn't want to to convert the file into something weird and have it screw up SAI being able to use it.

Well, as I said, just make a copy of the file to be able to replace the broken one. But it should be fine, they should be simple text files.
But if you open the files and unreadable garbage appears, just close it again. In that case you either caught the wrong file, or your guide is outdated.

Also, it will be enough just to copy the .conf file to a safe location before you tinker with it. If something is wrong, just copy it back over again.

Yeah, I just use Photoshop for that. Draw/sketch/ink in Sai and save as a PSD for photoshop for any sort of overlayed pattern like fishnet.

Yeah the only Photoshop version I have is Elements and fuuuuuuuuu- I hate that thing.

The problem with that is that I can' find just one picture that I can spread over the background and make it look natural with the folds of the fabric. Otherwise, yeah that's pretty much what I'd normally do.
