Was about time he got a new one, he was still wearing his original puppy collar, because it had loads of room to expand, but was beginning to look too thin on him.
I think he looks very dashing.

People tend to use these as training collars, to help the dog walk more nicely on the lead, but I don't. Dres doesn't pull, so the only two reasons I use a half check are because he could back out of a normal collar when he was younger, and it got me paranoid, but its pretty impossible to back out of a half check.
I also like them because when the dog is just playing, or walking along beside you, there is no tightness to the collar, it just hangs, so they don't always have to feel like they're wearing something, like they do with standard collars.
I've loosened this just a tiny bit since these pics, too. But yeah, I really like half checks for breeds like dobies who are prone to being able to slip flat collars.
Im just lucky Dres learned not to pull on the lead pretty quickly, theres nothing worse than a dog that drags you along!
He learned that pulling = stopping, not moving. He realised that a loose lead was the best way to move forward. You have to be very consistent and stop each and every time, which sometimes means you don't go very far!
He still has little relapses now and then, but he's generally pretty good.
