Windows Defender is all you should need if you're smart about internet use. This is coming from a career networking guy.

Ehh I dont have any virus/malware protection at all. i just do a 5 minute system restore to a date just before I got the virus/malware. quick and easy and if you make a new system restore point every day like I do you never lose anything important. The reason I dont use any protection software is because im a hardcore gamer and dont like having to grant access/approve everything my games trying to do to run... so far ive never encountered anything I couldnt remove by doing a system restore and ive had some pretty nasty stuff. If its one of the viruses that dosent let you open/run anything i just run windows in safe mode and do a system restore from there :)

but to answer your question malware bytes is very good as is Spybot search and destroy. I used them before I picked up my system restore trick.

Between Microsoft security essentials and Avira you'll be set. And i know what yoru thinking, I didn't have much faith in microsofts antivirus software either but it actually did quite well.

ya mencionaron el Malwarebytes, es excelente, pero la trmapa es que la version gratuita no siempre te quita los archivos infectados, para eso te obliga a adquirir la version completa, si gustas te lo busco con su "medicina". El complemento ideal para este es e Dr Web, idea para virus medio agresivos, y en su version gratuita sirve de maravilla
