Waiting for results

In a world of instant gratification, I'm trying something different. I am waiting for the fruits of my efforts to grow and ripen before I pick them. For example, I work based solely on commission, not doing all that great. However, I know that in less than 1 year, I will start to get residual income! Also, I know that every time I fail, I hone my craft more and more. I know that I could quit working here and get a job that pays just as much for less work, however, I see the potential for growth and am willing to wait for it.
Another thing is my art. 6 days a week; I wake up, goto work for 10-12 hours, get home, eat something, and then make time for art before I goto bed. My art is not that great, I make very little to no money on it, and I could be doing something else with my time. However, I know that if I continue to dedicate myself to it, my work will become better and better. I will be able to create true beauty and perhaps even make some money off of it.
I guess the point I'm getting at is: anything worth having is worth waiting for and working for. Instant gratification has no lesson attached, no experience, no feeling of accomplishment. It only creates the desire for more and lowers your standards.
