I had that experience once; there was only one service provider in the area and they put stipulations on Internet usage even when I was paying them for it. I absolutely abhor it when there's no competition in the area. It means the top dog can drag its feet for as long as it needs to without giving its customers a reason for the discourse. This is one of the reasons why I'm all for free enterprise, trade, and competition, because it plays a significant part in eliminating absolutes where they're not needed.

I agree with you there. There are actually loads of Internet and phone providers over here, but the feet-dragging still continues. Basically, to get the plan we wanted, we had to change providers. So basically, if you ever decide to move to Australia, don't get a connection with Telstra. Our new Internet provider basically got our Internet connection up and running within two weeks, but to be able to use the Internet, Telstra had to disconnect us from their network. It wasn't until yesterday that they actually did their part, but that was after a technician from our current company went over to the local branch. (Sorry if it seems like I'm rambling too much here, I just need to let off some steam.)
