Rember when I use to do Jounal updates once a week?
So yeah, hasn’t had a lot of time (or will) to make a new journal update. This is partly because summer school and summer theater camp has been kicking my ass, but mostly because I've had such little time to myself. So this might just be the longest journal ever made, as I will now summarize "The International Thespian Festival": It was really fun! I learned some new tricks for acting, explored what kind of villain I could best portray (and accidentally scarring about thirteen people shit-less), and had an emotion brake down, and then reconstruct in only about three hours. Which by the way, if you want to have the most powerful exercise in finding emotion, look up "Neutral Mask".
We got see two shows a day. First one I saw was "Pippen": I want to be the lead player so bad after seeing that! If you are given the chance to see this show, DO IT just to see him alone! The rest of the show sucks. I have four big problems with the story. First: the first act should have ended with *spoiler* Pippen killing his father, and not when he runs from the after math *spoiler over*. Second: forget most of the stuff in Act one, it will have little to no baring on the rest of the plot what so ever, and just wasted your fucking time! Three: I didn't believe that romance for a minute. Why is it in most musicals (Doctor Horrible, Phantom of the Opera, est.) is the female lead is so uninteresting? The jokes only work because Lead Player is just so awesome. He just steals the show! Four: There are so many characters who are introduced, do one song, tell some jokes, then just disappear. The same is with the events that take place, there is a major shift in the political power at some point, and evil step-mother #250-I-don't-give-a-shit succeeds in her plan, and nothing happens. There is no change in anything, so what was the point? The performance it self was memorable, but the story of the show is trash.
Next was "Aida", which was so good! The dancing was some of the best I'd ever seen, the singing was so good I almost cried, and the actors were all vary convincing. The only down sides were stuff that were out of people's control, like most of them being white when the setting is in Egypt. All the characters are interesting, and are much deeper then you would think. Plus it was written by Elton Jon and Tim Rice, how can you go wrong?
Then there was "Crimes of the Heart"...*sigh*. If you want something that is light hearted, fun, and is good for a date; DON'T SEE THIS SHOW! This is a roller costar of emotion, and is so damn depressing most of the time! Act one isn't so bad, but it just keeps going, and going, and going, and good god just stop! Then you reach act two, and the show doesn’t give you a chance to catch your breath! We go from "Happy fun bonding time" to "Screaming Hatred!" in rapped succession. Talk about emotional wipe lash. The actors also were doing vary heavy southern accents, and were talking so fast I didn't catch half of what they were saying. The last moments of the show are so sad, and so stressful, I just wanted to scream "CAN WE BE HAPPY LONGER THEN FIVE MINUTES!" I don't recommend this at all; you will die a little inside.
After that was "The Foreigner". This one just killed me. It was the funniest play there, and was great after seeing "Crimes of the Heart". This is a really light hearted, good feeling, fun comedy. The actors were just having a blast, and I had a blast watching it. I would heavily recommend seeing this, even if you don't like plays. It’s simple, so there isn't much to talk about, but I still would say it was the best laughs I got while I was there.
The semi-final show was "School House Rock"...Oh boy. The performance was a disaster. It looked like only one of the actors knew what they were doing, and the rest had just been taught the moves over night. Plus they're sound and light crew was only one freshman, who clearly didn't know what he was doing. Believe it or not, but my troop basically decided to help salvage what we could, by being as loud and supportive as possible. After the show, the crew started to give away their props, and I took home a magician’s staff, and my friend got three signs saying: "Conjunction" "Junction", "What’s your Function". Needless to say, he was happy as a clam.
Finally there was "Funny Money". This show is the same three or five jokes, played over and over again, and got really old really fast. There are so many moments when the main characters could get away, but no they just waste time bitching at one another, and being as annoying as possible. I wanted to shot the wife of the main character half way act one. It's predicable, boring, and just unfunny.
For my next essay, I mean journal, I'll talk about summer school and camp. Plus I turn eight-teen in nine days, wee!
