I dunno, I toasted this on my Facebook page and I thought I'd toast it here if anyone was interested. I'm a massive fan of the series, so I did this for my fans. Hope you enjoy too.
I'll be counting down from 10 to 1, on each point I'll first discuss my negatives to the game (if there is any) and then the positives to it.
Anyway, I only did this because I wanted to do it myself anyway, and I mean, if it gets popular or whatever, I'll do it more with different things, I'll post polls to see what you'd want to see next, so yeah, I hope you enjoy.
DISCLAIMER: This is purely my opinion, if you bitch fit over it, I'll simply ignore you.
Let's begin:
10. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
This game was fun and all, and I adore everything that falls under 'Zelda', but it just didn't spark my interest like any of the other Zelda games. I found it unbelievably repetitive and tedious. It's ugly in the sense of it's colour filtering and art style, but not much can be said about that considering it was fairly advanced in graphics for it's time. It just reminds me more of the old Final Fantasy than it did Zelda, especially in the game play.
On the plus side, the whole side scrolling idea was a nice change of idea to the other Zelda games, and with it's difficulty level, completing it or merely taking down any enemy was quite the achievement. The concept of some of Bosses was really well done as well, the battles were hard and took time. The game was a challenge, and that's always a bonus in gaming.
9. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
I honestly don't understand why this is a very popular game within the series, but everyone's got their opinion and no one will ever fully agree on one thing. Personally, it lacked the sort of feel of Zelda to me, and it was all a bit of a change of pace to keep up with. The art style I really wasn't found of at all, and the storyline just seemed way outside any of the Zelda concept. With a final boss that only appeared once (in this one game), it just seemed out of the loop (even though **SPOILER ALERT** Ganon does later come in to play)
However Link to the Past did revolutionize Zelda, it introduced many new concepts and re-accruing ideas that are still used this day in the Zelda series, such as the spin attack, the Hook shot, the Master Sword, etc. It also put Zelda into perspective with the idea of the 'Sacred Realm' and such, it built a fair bit of understanding to the whole concept of the story line, until Ocarina of Time was released.
8. The Legend of Zelda: The Oracle of Seasons/Ages (They're sorta the same concept so I placed them together, I do not have preference between them)
I don't particularly see many negatives to these games, they were very well developed. I think the only negative to them would probably be the fact they sorta reminded me of the original Zelda, but that could also come in a positive, there's also the fact to capture the full potential, you'll need to play them both.
On the whole positive side, these games were really fun and kept me well entertained. With both games combined, the adventure was a very well thought out and had many new aspects to it. With ages focusing more on the puzzle and thought of Zelda it had you constantly guessing and your mind at work, where as Seasons focused well on the action of Zelda and battling was intense. The two were also one of the first partnered games to introduce interaction through cable to make the idea of the games complete. Overall, the games we're really well developed and thought out.
7. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Sadly, in my eyes, I believe Nintendo tried to once again capture the dark side to Zelda as they did in Majora's Mask, but they didn't too well. The game was unbelievably dull, and although there was so much to explore, I didn't feel like doing so, it was more just a straight gameplay through the game and if I felt like it, exploring it once it was completed. The Graphic style was very advanced from what Nintendo had produced previously and don't get me wrong, it was beautiful, but dull.
However, the game had a beautiful story line and introduced many new and well loved characters to the series. Midna especially, as many have said she's probably their favorite companion in the Zelda series, and I go to no length to disagree, she was very well designed and her feisty attitude made her very entertaining. Again as mentioned in the negatives, the graphic style was really beautiful and was very advanced from previous Nintendo creations. ALSO LINK WAS HOT AS FUCK AND LOOKED MANLY, AND I'D TAP THAT, SUMO WRESTLING SCENE WHERE HE WAS TOPLESS, HOLY SHIT FUCKING- ASJHDKJAHLFHALKSHDFLHASDHFLKHASDFSF- Sorry, what?
6. The Legend of Zelda
Shit was hard, that's about the only negative.
Positive? It started the whole beautiful creation of this magnificent series.
5. The Legend of Zelda: Link's awakening
I see no negative points to this game, it was helluva fun and had a nice difficulty about it.
On the positive side, the game had a nice story line, the game play was new and fun, the integrated theme of Mario was a real interest too. (OM NOM NOM CHAIN CHOMP EAT ERRYTHING). The game always had a fairly unique idea to it, especially being the first handheld Zelda game.
4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Negatives? NEGATIVES?! IN THE WIND WAKER?! ARE YOU STUPID?!
This game was fucking beautiful. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. The story line, the game play, the graphics, everything. This game is bashed on way too much, especially for it's graphic style. At least it's graphics are extremely unique and don't try to imitate real life like everything Sony produces, it's always nice to have a cartoony, kid-like feel to a game, it gives a massive nostalgia rush to ones childhood. The story line was a real beauty, especially with the shock factor that **SPOILER ALERT** Tetra the pirate was actually Princess Zelda. Admittedly, that caught me way off guard. The Atmosphere of the game was amazing, you could sit on your boat and watch the sun rise with the feeling of ease, or you could sail through destructive waves with the sky's storming around you. The game introduced many new characters that are loved throughout the series as well, such as Medli and Makar.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Again, I see no negatives to this creation, Skyward Sword was beautiful and I can honestly say, it almost measures up to #1 on the list.
The Introduction to motion control really got me feeling like I was the one saving 'The surface'. It was me hacking and slashing my way to the end, I thought motion control was beautiful and very initiative. The art style of this game was very magnificent to look at it, kind of a cross between OoT and Wind Waker. I had A LOT of anticipation for this game in it's upcoming release and I was not disappoint, the game play was amazing and the story line had me on edge constantly.Skyward Sword also (of course before Nintendo FINALLY released the timeline) put the timeline of the whole series right into perspective.
Skyward Sword also had beautiful composition in terms of Music, and holds my favorite of the Zelda soundtracks. Not to mention, aside from Link, Skyward Sword holds my second favorite character within the whole series. If I said, FABULOUS~
You'd know who.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
Majora's Mask? Negatives? Do they even fit in the same sentence?
This game was magnificent. It was amazing, it was beautiful, everything about it. It was so dark and creepy, it introduced a whole new side to the Legend of Zelda. The structure, the story line, the game play everything was so well developed. I mean sure, ain't that world just lovely, nice big field, a beautiful ranch full of cows, the quiet and relaxed beach, but whoa, wait, what's that? Oh right, It's all going to be destroyed in three days if you don't get yo' ass in gear.
Too many people bash on the 3 day time limit, but the idea of restarting your adventure just to explore somewhere brand new, acquire new items and techniques and inch that bit closer to saving the world from pure destruction was such a great concept. This game had me on edge constantly and I can't say at any part, from the many story quest, to the side quests, to merely exploring Termina, was I bored at any point.
1. The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
Now before you all go off like, "Oh, that's boring, everyone says OoT is their favorite, boo" hear me out.
OoT not only represents my whole childhood but it also holds fond memories of my father. This was my first ever game I had played alone, holding the control by myself. It took me years to complete it, and I cried my little heart out when I finally did.
It's nothing short of perfect. Everything about Ocarina of Time was amazing. The story line of sealing Link in the past to rescue the future was very well developed and thought out. The graphics were so far ahead of their time and we're beautiful to watch. The Game play revolutionized the series and allowed the player to feel more one with Link himself. The Character development from the Great Deku tree down to Nabooro was some of Nintendo's best work to date. Everything about this game had me in love, and still does to this very day.
Put it this way, on no word of a lie, I played this game EVERY SINGLE DAY even just for 10 minutes from the ages 8-10.
There you have it. That's my Zelda top 10.
Let me know yours; and maybe a quick comment to say I should do this again sometime?
Enjoy.
I'll be counting down from 10 to 1, on each point I'll first discuss my negatives to the game (if there is any) and then the positives to it.
