I've been spending some time hanging out in chat rooms for years, but of late I've given most of my attention to Vulpine Hollow.

I know some folks are uncomfortable with Public RPs, but that's not really the main point of the room. There's a good friendly crowd there and it's a nice place to meet people with similar interests.
