So, while browsing Google+ I came across the following "Did You Know?" posting...

The watermelon is easily digestible, and will be excavated much faster than the burger and fries below. If the burger and fries remain in tact for 180 days, imagine how it must look inside your intestines! That stuff clogs you up, prevents the villi in the intestine from functioning properly, and results in malabsorption issues and GI tract problems. Not to mention a variety of other bodily effects that I could list for days on end.
Suggestion : Eat clean. Eat Fruits. Eat Greens. Eat nuts, seeds and avocados minimally. See the changes. Exercise, get enough sleep, reduce daily stress.
My response was the following:
Wow, so many logical fallacies in this comparison... This argument relies mostly on the fallacy that natural is better (http://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/appeal-to-nature). The second fallacy is suggesting that food that doesn't easily decompose in an open environment (providing that the pictures are from open environment and not just a sealed container, but the point stands) doesn't decompose within one's stomach/instestines. These are two very different environments. Both are normally digestable by the human stomach and intestines without much trouble.
The burger and fries provide more proteins, fats, and carbohydrates than the entire watermelon likely would have. The reason people get "fat" on burgers and fries is because they are obtaining too much in the way of nutrients that their body has to store the extra as fat.
One thing I will grant is that having a diet of nothing but burgers and fries is unhealthy. But so is having a diet of nothing but watermelons.

I have a hard time believing that a watermelon would look like that after only 80 days but I guess it would depend on the environment it's kept in.
I think our main issue with obesity is portion control. In nature we needed to eat as much as we could when we could but now that we have become more civilized and no longer need to "hunt" for our next meal we no longer need to stuff ourselves but some of us still have the instinct. It also doesn't help that some people were brought up and told by parents that they have to finish their plate. Not really a good thing to start teaching a child. You're full? Doesn't matter you need to eat everything on that plate!
That said there are various reasons why people are overweight and not all of them are the same. If someone is interested in losing weight they first need to find out why they are overweight to begin with. I lost 50lbs in three months. It's been about three months since I've lost the weight and have been keeping it off. All I did was stop eating pre-processed foods and only eating what I cook myself (I still ate pizza, burgers fries and all that good stuff). Also the main thing was portion control. Teaching myself to eat 6-8 times a day with small portions in mind did wonders!
Protein and fat are hard for bacteria to break down, which is why most of our abdominal cavity is filled with various organs precisely for the purpose of producing enzymes to break down fat and protein because we can't rely on bacteria to do it for us.
This isn't natural vs. preprocesssed thing, it's a vegetable vs. meat thing. If you did the same thing with processed vegetables and an organic steak, the vegetables would still break down faster.
Additionally, water content has a big part to play in how fast things rot (which rots first, fresh peas or dried peas?), so again, the watermelon is something that's going to rot much faster than the relatively dry food in the Happy Meal.
I don't have much else to say, because A) I've seen the pictures of the 180 days burger thing, and B) I agree with everything you've said, so... yeah. ^_^
