I don't know what genre of book you prefer, but a book that has stuck with me in technicolor clarity is Tick Tock by Dean Koontz. Damn good book; I didn't put it down until I was done. With my mind, the level of detail damn near fooled my brain into thinking I was watching a MOVIE. It was that good to me.

Awesome! This book wasn't quite that vivid, but it was a great book in its own right. It actually won an award in 2004 for best new fantasy novel.

I will have to look into it after I am done reading my thousand other novels that I had to put off for college. LOL Thanks for sharing. ^^

Yyyeah, I own this on paperback! It was a purchase back when I was a bright-eyed furry who was new to the concept of anthropomorphics. It was such an interesting read to see how their culture had arisen from ancient traditions and in a caste-like system. There was supposed to be a sequel, but it got scrapped.

Awww, dammit. I really want a sequel! And yea, it was much different than what I thought it was gonna be, but not in a bad way! In fact, I think the way it was made it even more interesting to me than a typical fantasy dragons book. Plus Daevarek got what he had coming to him that bastard. When he finally dies at the end, I was all like 'Fuck yea!' Love this book.

Hehe, yes it definitely had a good payoff in that respect. I think it was so different that it's almost not even close to the typical high-fantasy depiction of dragons, to the point of being in its own niche genre of fiction. According the first chapter of the sequel's rough draft (which is floating around on the internet somewhere), it would have followed one of the Daevarek children. Ah well, I suppose it's better that it gets scrapped rather than be written when there isn't much will to right a sequel and probably being lackluster because of that.

True, True, although I think a little sequel made into a short story would've been pretty cool, just to see what happened afterwards. Also, it really does kinda sit in its own genre.

Heh, well I don't read much anymore in between school, planning for a DnD campaign that I'm the DM for, and work, I don't have much time to read. But I'm slowly chewing away when I do have free moments at a cyberpunk book called "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson. If you like dystopian Sci-Fi stuff, I highly suggest it! It's a great piece of work.

Oh sweet! I'll check it out! Also, I didn't know you were into DnD, I've been thinking of trying to get into it myself lately. I know that there are different versions of it or something and since you know about it I was wondering if maybe you could suggest the best version to use to get started into it?

With DnD it really does depend. I learned 3.5 as my first tabletop RPG system, and after having played 4.0, I think 3.5 is a bit more realistic and balanced. In 3.5 you actually have to work to be amazing as a character, where in 4.0 the reward of awesomeness is given to you at the very beginning. However, I will say that 4.0 is easier to learn on your own and with other people who are also new to DnD. 3.5 is a very fleshed out system and therefore is pretty complex now, so it's better to have experienced players of the system to help teach you. Of course, it isn't impossible to learn it on your own if you dedicated enough to do so. Do you have a group that you can play with?

Regardless of the system, the best way to start out is finding the Player's Handbooks for whichever version you choose (for 3.5 it's easiest to just find the PDFs online).

Yea, I talked to a couple of my friends today, and they said that if I started into it, they'd try it out with me too. Also I'll take a look around and try to find the pdf for one of the two. I've already did a little research on it trying to see how things like battle work and it seems to be pretty straightforward, I mean if you're willing to do some simple math that is, lol. It also looks exciting to make your own character and give them stats that affect your campaign. That just seems so damn cool to me.

Heh, yes, simple math is a big part of tabletop RPGs. It's a simple but fun element. Battle's pretty simple once you get a basic working knowledge of it too. Stats are pretty cool since they help give you an idea of what your character is like. The fun part is also writing the backstory and personality for your character. It's even better if your DM has a story-telling style (like the first one I played with).

Overall, D&D is a pretty accessible game. I'm also going to start DMing a campaign for a game called Rifts. Now there's a game that only experienced RPG players should play. It assumes a lot from the beginning regarding a player's and DM's know-how. In any case, I highly suggest that you at least give it a shot with those friends of yours. It's not for everybody, but if you can get into it, it can become a really fun part of your life. :)
