With Shark Week drawing to a close for another year. Myself and a friend joked about another thing themed like that... Well, I wound up not-joking about it. >:V
Snake Week(end).
The first weekend in October. (1st - 7th inclusive).
Because from what I've seen, sharks didn't get much notice on here until I saw Shark Week happened.
So I'm declaring Snake Week(end) to get snakes a bit more widespread. Hell, there's a lot of us out there already!
Yes. I'm slightly jealous that there is something like that for sharks but not for snakes. Rather than sit around doing nothing I'm going to actually try to drum up some support for it, maybe even make it a thing! Hell, worth a try, for the sake of snakes! We need to paint 'em in a good light for once, instead of have them all connected with grr-evil and things like that. FED UP WITH SERPENTINE-VILLAINS ONLY. SO LET'S SHOW THEM HOW NICE WE CAN BE (when we want to~)!
So yeah, spread the word, peeps! Journals, shouts, whatever, just do it! Snake need love too!

I myself plan to participate with daily drawings, information sharing, possibly some updated/more extensive anatomy tutorials, banners (maybe with some help, for an ad spot,) and frequent pimping. Let's celebrate the coolest animals on the planet! No, that is not a cold blooded pun. Then that would be arctic sea life.

But yeah, I see your point. And anyway, the ones celebrating are rarer ones. The more 'usual' ones don't have much reason to celebrate 'cause they're in such vast majority. [/bias] >:V

Though... Snakes /are/ sort-of 'popular' in the 'badguy' sense... Except if a snake's in something, it's a 95% chance of being evil. Wolves are 50-50, really.

If I started waving about fliers for "SNAKE WEEK" around my hometown I'd get nobody listening. Partly because I live in Ireland and there are no snakes (har har religious joke), but mostly because most people don't give a crap.
I could run around herpetology sites and try to drum up support there, true, but they most likely appreciate snakes anyway. :P
If anything, on FA, Shark Week (and Fat Bunny Week, maybe,) opened peoples' eyes to things other than your run-of-the-mill species here, and got them to dabble without feeling embarrassed. I'm going to try to do that with Snake Week too (which PAINT is trying to run off with though also make it awesome. :I).
fat bunny week might be big here, but...
shark weeek is big everywhere because its like, a national event almost.
Thanks for the concern, though. If worst comes to worst, it's a learning experience, eh? If it turns out good, then well... :]
