Just thought I should mention this here.
On Saturday, my computer turned into a brick. The faulty drive I have finally got total control over my Hard Drive and completely deleted all of my drivers. As a result, my computer was - more or less - worthless. I went to Best Buy and asked the guys what all I would need to do; turns out that the Hard Drive model that came with my computer (Dell 580) apparently has a one in ten chance of being faulty, and deteriorating much faster than it should.
I went online before my computer bricked to confirm this.
Turns out, I needed to buy an entirely new hard drive. So...that's not cheap. The one I got was $120, and it is actually a phenomenal upgrade compared to what I had (which was priced at $90). Considering the difference, I opted to get the upgrade. Now that I had my Hard Drive, I decided to give Dell a call, since they didn't give me any recovery disks when I purchased my computer. Turns out my karma had decided to cut me some slack, since they decided to give me the disks for free, instead of their normal price of $50 for the two of them.
Cool, right?
Now, I got my hard drive, my disks, and I take 'em to Best Buy here in Carmel Mountain. I asked 'em if they could do both a hard drive and an OS installation. They said it would take five to seven days. I resisted the urge to give them the middle finger, and left. Went to the Best Buy that's a little further away in Mira Mar, and asked the same thing. The guy said two to four days. I asked him how long it would take just for the hard drive installation, and he did it in a grand total of five minutes. Now I've reinstalled my OS and drivers, gotten all of my updates, and my computer is back up and running. Problem is? ...All my bookmarks, files, folders...everything is gone.
It's like having a new computer, except...not. Ya know?
Anyways, just thought I should post something about this, just to warn you guys:
IF you have a Dell 580 model, with a 5600 RPM SATA "Green" Hard Disk Drive: Go get a new one, and get it in your computer. Now.
