I wanna say, people in the "real world" are somewhat less aware of all the creepy fetishes that tag along with Furry from time to time... that, coupled with the fact that the furry community has been a lot less vocal outside of themselves lately, and the Bronies have this tendency to go on explosive crusades against their Hated Enemies...

Also, there's a percentage who makes a distinction between "liking the show" and being a brony. The latter is reserved (sometimes) for those silly crusaders.

yea... watching MLP and enjoying it is fine. obsessing over it, white knighting it,and having an ADULT convention for it, not so much :P

I just don't know why people have to go to hills to stand up defend something you enjoy. If you enjoy something and someone doesn't understand or doesn't like what you are into so what. I find it funny in some ways sad in others, I enjoy Second Life and I heard people talk shit about it left and right. I don't try to defend Second Life I don't get upset because I enjoy it. I understand people have opinions and won't always enjoy what I do and see eye to eye with me.

If you enjoy being a fan of My Little Pony so what, personally I have watched 4 episodes just not to be running my mouth in case there was actually any adult appeal to it. I know I enjoy many kids cartoons that have an edge to them Invader Zim, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons all very good shows that had things adults can find appealing. I don't get the attraction to My Little Pony, seriously I can't understand why so many adult men are in such a fan-boy state of mind over a little girls cartoon show. Don't take this as me saying you can't enjoy it, or trying to talk you out of it. I am just saying I don't understand the appeal. Clearly there is appeal to many; good! Have fun enjoy it to your hearts content, just don't be shocked when people can't grasp why a grown man has such a love appeal for a little girls cartoon show.

Hmm, I don't think I'm going out of my way to defend this. I generally avoid forcing what I enjoy on others. To clarify, this isn't something I go about cramming in people's faces, especially in that weird realm we call 'real life', but it's just something that cropped up within my social circle. But the point is I had assumed that the furry fandom had a much more negative public image. Fanatical bronies are annoying, yes, perhaps creepy at times with their frankly insane devotion to a single show (even I don't understand it, the show's good but it's not THAT good), but for the most part they're completely harmless. To a lay person the term 'furry' is synonymous with sexual deviancy of highest order as well as incessant whiny drama and, at times, criminal activities (remember the ambulance-barbecue-fund-raiser incident). Now, to prevent these words being taken out of context, I understand this is largely the result of an extremely vocal few who have unfortunately become the public face of the fandom.

What I'm trying to get at is that I'm not the least bit shocked that people don't understand, I'm mature enough to know that. The same way I can't understand why anyone could be so fanatical about professional football (soccer). The crux of my confusion is the apparent discrepancy between people's reactions over my fondness for these two things; the one I believed to carry much more negative connotations receiving a less negative reaction than the one I thought to be annoying but mostly harmless. I anticipated negative reactions, I'd have been a complete idiot not to, but they weren't in the same order as I'd expected.

Or maybe the world's just found a new set of weirdos to pick on, and my timing is just terrible :P

I was shocked when you said you liked MLP, I did not picture you as a brony and I am sure you are not one of the over enthused brony's. I agree with everything you said in the last comment, I just want to point out that I am a furry but I am not a life-slyler type furry. I don't do fur-cons and I don't fur-suit. To use an analogy I point to Star Trek, there are those who enjoy the shows and movies, watch them when they are on TV. Then there is the fan who can speak Klingon and dress like them etc etc. Those are Trekies. I am the fur who enjoys the stories, art and RP, when I turn off the computer I am just a normal guy, I don't pull my furry fetishes out into the real world.
