Saw a Wild Otter

Just thought I'd share.
Every morning around 6am me and my mate walk along the American River before it gets too hot. For the first time, we saw a river otter! I've heard stories of them being there, but there's a lot of people who like to go rafting down that area and the otters clear out. The one I saw was headed downstream, presumably towards a place to forage for food. The river is rich in small feesh, crawdads, and frogs. Blackberries also grow along certain areas but aren't in season yet.
The otter either didn't see me trying to take a blurry picture of it, was too focused on swimming, or just didn't give a rat's ass. He's probably seen loads of rowdy rafters in much closer proximity, so I'm guessing #3.

That's cool!! My mom saw one recently down in Florida. I have yet to see an otter in the wild myself, have only caught glimpses of muskrats, heheh.

Ooh, I love the wildlife in Florida! Not the humidity so much though. Funny how you go to other States, or even other areas WITHIN certain States and you see different animals. No wild alligators in California like I saw in Florida. I even saw different lizards running around, and ants crawling about.

Yeah. I am in Pennsylvania, but I have visited Florida several times cause I have family down there. I love all the lizards in the warmer climates. We don't have many in my state. I've seen blue tailed skinks a couple times, which are pretty awesome, but that's it.

Awesome! I've seen plenty of wild sea otters, but every time I've imagined I was spotting a river otter, it's always turned out to be a muskrat, or a fish, or on one occasion a particularly otter-shaped log. :P

Yeah, sea otters are a little easier to spot on the open ocean, hehe. Not many places to hide from people. And those logs will get you every time :3

I could watch them forever. My mate has to tear me away from the otters whenever we go to a place that has them.

An otter in the wild, wow! They're usually pretty shy of humans, so that was outstanding luck! I hope you actually got that picture.

I know how elusive river otters usually are. This is the first time I've actually seen one. I've heard rumors of them near me, but kinda dismissed them because it's such a high traffic area for recreational rafting. But I've always hoped. As to the picture, only I can tell it's an otter there. It's so blurry and far away. That's what I get for using my camera phone. I'll be walking with my D-SLR from now on :3

Awww, I've seen a real life Sea Otter when I was younger, it was tangled in a net and I helped free it, it was so adorable and so small though, not small like a kitten but pretty much a bit bigger.
