"No computers"



Guessing REALLY long weeks as well.

Any idea why they are so behind the times with computers?

Appears computers would speed things up a bit.

That is very old school for business these days. I imagine there are some businesses it could pull it off if small enough, sounds like they really need to upgrade to help everyone out. Updated system productivity increased by 500%!!!!

The idea that you could make errors calculating everything and the possibility to do statistics (calculate metrics) based on years haven't come to his mind so far I guess ?

I'm guessing that if a computer system ever came into the company, there would be less human jobs? *shrugs*

up intill 8 years ago. we still typed all the documents on a typewriter.
SOME people have computers now. but we're SOOO behind the times.
[company has 1 email address. a secretary goes through the email, prints yours and gives you a hard copy every day] #Dumb

Laptop?

i have been bringing in my laptop. but in reality, i shouldn't have to do that.

Most companies are that way its too expensive and the economy is just crap for upgrading (and sometimes they are just cheap)

we're too cheap. the owner bought last year. 3 vehicles. 1 forklift, 3 AC/heating units, and paved the driveway [$50,000]. but wont buy me a cheap dell.

Wrong reasons. Making micro-savings cost way more on the long run.

I had to keep track of inventory at my last job without computers. It is very mind-numbing to count everything by hand

and the high turn-around items i have to manually count every 3 days.
there are so many better ways to do this. [and im currently working on it]

being old school is no excuse. you gotta move with the times. #efficiency

Wow thats gotta suck balls. It was bad enough (for a large retail store anyway) to do it with a computerized system that was all manual entry. It at least did a bunch of calculations for you but god damn.

Sticking to it 'the old way' has got to be costing him more money than he's saving, especially with this whole 'print off emails' stuff.

yea. he's spending tons in labor costs, that a computer can do for him.

i am bringing in my laptop.
i tried a spredsheet. but it got too big.
now im using actual inventory software. so far it's working. but i have to do 4 peoples jobs to keep it running
[sales, purchasing, shipping, and receiving]

then have other people do all the work. and i take all the credit.

Well maybe you could implement a computer based system ... oooh and RFID tags if its fancy ... or just portable barcode scanners and a database ... And maybe you get another promotion.

the cap is 18% of your yearly salary.
if you dont max it every year. the balance carries over to the next year.

Actually if you can put on paper a dollar amount he would be saving by getting a computer or two and show how much he might save in labor costs/overtime etc. I bet he will do it. Even as old fashion as he may be, saving money always wins, especially if it is a few thousand dollars. Products can be shipped faster, new inventory gets on the shelf faster, more profit for him!

i agree with you. but the biggest cost savings im going for is keeping less inventory. thats... tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands.

Then tell him you will only take half of the money you save him! LOL

Hey there stud. Congrats on the promotion. I remember having to do inventory in my previous retail jobs. It was always tedious and a pain in the ass, and that with WITH computers. I can't imagine doing it without computers.

An insurance for disability of work-continuation (hard to describe German insurances in english XD basically: if you can#t go on with your job because of some accident or illness) on private and companies base,
A governmental supported retirement fund and a life insurance already running on me o.o

Problem is: the're all needed when doing my job XD
