thinking about maybe doing some character commissions. maybe scrachin' up some extra cash. What do you guys think? Would anyone even want one if I charged, say, 5 bucks for a single character sketch? more? less?
also: how the heck do you set up a paypal and are there any nasty hidden charges or anything that I should know about?
also, also: everyone sure does write in these journal thingys a lot. I feel kinda bad because I usually let mine (here and on DA) sit around for weeks upon weeks.

As far as PayPal goes, You can open an account for free for Personal, Premier and Business Accounts. You can send money, add funds to your PayPal account and withdraw funds to a US bank account for free. It takes some time for money to be withdrawn to your bank account (about 3 business days).
You can verify your PayPal account by adding your credit card. This just makes your account legitimate (but you don't have to use a credit card if you don't want to). A transaction can be reversed within 60 days and all fees are refunded.
What's good about a personal account is that you have to manually accept or deny the payment sent to you. This might help if your Buyer flakes out on you or if you choose not to do their commission.
Hope this helps ya Miss Peaches.
I've wanted that question answered for a while, and when I say your response to Peaches I couldn't help but jump at the chance to suck your paypal knowledge dry.
P.S. I'd tottally buy a character sketch for $5 once I have some extra cash.
Once you've created your invoice, you send it off to the Buyer and they'll pay you via their PayPal account, (which automatically dumps your requested money into your PayPal account, after you've accepted it). Then you can either keep it in your PayPal account, or withdraw it from your PayPal account, into your Bank Account (which takes three business days) and then you'll have your cash.
So PayPal basically just makes it easy to receive cash from your Buyers. If you want the cash in your hands, then you'll have to wait the 3 days until it appears in your bank account.
Is this helping you guys? Or am I scaring the crap outta ya? lol
It's really not that big of a deal if you go there and follow the instructions. I've had an account for about 8 years and never had any issues (even after eBay bought PayPal out).
1. Choose to withdraw from your PayPal account... in which will ADD monies to your bank account).
2. You may also request money from your Bank account to put into your Paypal, (but it's not really necessary because...)
3. PayPal will automatically withdraw money from your bank account is you deplete your Paypal account balance (unless you choose for it to withdraw from a credit card instead).
Gosh, I'm sounding like an accountant or something.... God, I hate accountants. *shivers*
Lemme know if you have anymore questions (e-mail me). *smile*
