improvement of style will come with improvement of skills, as long as someone does not aim to copy a certain style 1:1. myself I surely have my initial inspirations, but when I started to draw anthropomorphic animal people I wanted to create my own style instead of copying, and thus, "drowning in a sea of lookalikes". if it worked out I'll leave for others to decide.

I sometimes have the impression that, as more as some artist's work reaches "photorealism" they start to lose their inherent art style. it does look like all the others, because nature looks, well, "natural".

This is really good advice; I surely get inspired mostly by creative things I see and experience outside of this art community. Seeing other people's work here motivates me too, but the things that influence the content are definitely found in other areas as well.

I definitely agree with this advice, it's very similar to what I have to say to folks when they ask me about style. Style is what your chosen art looks/sounds like through the filter of your training, your perceptions, and your body. It comes out on it's own, it changes and develops as you gain new skills and new mind sets. So when you concentrate on expanding your skill set, or improving the skills you have, then style will naturally follow.

Study many...settle on none.
