1. I usually use either Sharpies or Gel Markers for coloring the eyes.
2. Personally, I like the eye shape on your head... but thats just me ;). for eye shape, I usually look at cartoon art or even real animal pictures, place the picture in a photo editing software like photoshop. then trace around the eyes on the picture on a second layer then,... there ya go, instant eye shape.

I use sharpies too but I don't think my coloring skills are as wonderful as yours are. I should try using gel markers. Thanks. It might just be my poor coloring then, something about the eyes has never been right for me. Thanks for the help Snap!

sometimes to give the eyes a bit of color contrast, I water down some white acrylic paint or ink. using a small brush, I paint lines ontop of the color.
Some fursuit makers print out the iris onto photo paper then you just see out of the black area like this:
