This seems so obvious that it is amazing that people still believe it. If you destroy a part of your brain, your consciousness will be affected. There is no nonphysical mind that exists independently from physical brain matter. We are the product of ~3.6 Billion years of evolution which has put us in environments that pressured the bodies of our ancestors to require a bigger brain that is capable of abstract thought. A byproduct of this is that we try to form patterns that do not exist. Hopefully, with the advent of advanced artificial intelligence we will be able to learn more about ourselves and the emergence of superstitions.
